The BenQ EW2420: Too good to be true?

It's quite good for the price if you really want a 26" screen, but the extra two inches doesn't do as much for the image as the *VA panel of the EW2420. I am sure my review will sway you once it's published. Good things come to those who wait. :D

PCM2,

i can remember to your initial post, where you are not so enthusiastic. Why do you have changed your mind so much?

BTW: I found following settings for me:
--> Brightness 10
--> Contrast 70
--> Sharpness 2
--> Gamma 2.2
--> AMA 'On'
--> Color (Red) 87
--> Color (Green) 93
--> Color (Blue) 87

the Color is pretty much near to the "normal" settings which is 88, 92, 88. Nevertheless, the gamma test at lagom shows a gamma of 2.4 to 2.5 :-(

If you read the progression of the thread you will see why I changed my mind. Moreover; wait for the review. And about the gamma test - stand up and look. Sit down and look. Your results will be different in each case I am sure. Alas; the joys of a *VA panel.

I am really looking forward to your review.

As i got this monitor i installed it quickly to check if there is some ghosting by watching soccer. And it was there. I deinstalled the monitor as quickly as i installed it. After a while i tried it again and was amazed. If you dont concentrate on that ghosting you cant see it at all and the color stuff is getting more and more important to me. It is great.

So, PCM2, changing your mind is very similar to me.

In short that's exactly it. Once I wasn't specifically looking for the ghosting the whole experience became much more enjoyable. It is difficult to explain but you know exactly what I mean so I don't have to. For everyone else I do my best at trying to explain it in the review. :p

There seems to be a supply issue.

Not very impressed with this retailer for letting me know 4 days after I placed the order (half of the first word of the shops name is a wooly animal).

sheep... ram... goat... ewe... kid... lamb...

I can't find any place called goattech.com or lambbuyer.co.uk :D

Your last word was right.

It's a very big e-tailer for pc components, probably bigger than overclockers.
If it's the one I'm thinking of, they're drop shippers (ie they don't carry any inventory themselves). Google Shopping usually returns a bunch of these outfits - I'm not saying they're all terrible or should be avoided, but it's not uncommon for them to promise more than they can actually deliver (literally), and their "stock levels" should generally be taken with a pinch of salt. :)

I'm a picky ******* - really I am :p - so take my next words with a pinch of salt if you like.

You should look into getting that review edited a bit. Your use of semi-colons (";") isn't quite right, and the sentence structure could be improved a bit (to avoid roll-on sentences especially).

I'm still reading it, but the little niggles tend to stand out for me.

I agree actually and the flow of the piece is obviously very important. The main issue here is that the review was written up from draft rather hastily. I wanted to spend more time doing so but due to other commitments it simply wasn't possible. If you read the introductory 'post' on the website you will see that we refer to it as 'the long awaited, eagerly anticipated and overly wordy' review. We usually seperate out the text with more pictures and use a greater number of sections. Actually every stage of this review was a bit rushed - we were drafting it quickly since the monitor was originally going to be sent back under DSR. :) I'll make some quick alterations now and probably do a proper run-through a little later on. This is usually done before publication but I really wanted this thing out there.

Edit: Argh. There are still references to the 'F2380' in there. This was the template used for the review as the panel type is similar. That just shows how rushed this review has been - proof reading fail.

BL2400PT is essentially a professional office version of this, and does have all of the basic ergonomic stand functions, which could put some of the overpriced LED downgrades from UltraSharp models DELL pushed out under pressure. Great thing is that a better stand does not impact the retail price in case of the BenQ.

Thanks for the review PCM2.

Interesting read... to be honest I don't think this monitor would suit me all things considered, but I guess you need to bear the price in mind, and that it's pitched against TN panels of a similar size and resolution rather than 1920x1200px IPS screens at double the price or more.

BTW, you state the panel type as being "undisclosed vertical alignment" - I'm pretty certain it has an AU Optronics panel (or it would be suprising if it didn't, as BenQ Corporation and AUO are both part of the BenQ Group), and AFAIK they've always used MVA (later A-MVA) technology. :)

Just something I suddenly picked up on after scrolling back to the top of the review, PCM. You state the backlight tech as CCFL, when this BenQ is using WLED. ;) Just something you might want to edit before the nit pickers swarm again. :D
