Hey guys, i currently run 2x GTX 460's in SLI, but recently 3-4 games i have are not optimised for SLI and its causing me more of a headache then a benefit.

So i'm looking at removing 1 of the cards and replacing it with a ATI 6970 2048 version and use the other GTX 460 as a Physx card.

Is this still possible, is it worth it and how do you do it?

Thanks.

Thanks for the link.

From a quick look around it seems like a lot of hassle...Which is a real shame.

Really dont want to fork out £400, when i could spend £220 and get exactly the same if not better performance.

Aye no worries, had planned on doing the same with a low-end nvidia card, but my card is too big and covers most of my pci slots lol, ordered an mATX board without knowing.

Get the 480 SOC.
I had the 6970 and i now have the 480. I can tell you the 480 is better in every way.
On top of that, you can use Physx easily

No point getting a 6970 when you can unlock the 6950 2GB ref 1 for cheaper.

Hybrid physx is so simple to do. All you need is the hybrid physx 1.4 patch and away you go.

Still shocking though that nviidia's 'open platform' statement is complete and utter tosh!

Soc has loads of psu issues, even high quality enermax psus can't power it.

It may have a good cooler but the heat still needs getting rid of.
Personally I don't fancy summer night gaming sessions with one of them making my PC blow out crazy amounts of heat.

So i'm right in saying i just plug in the 2 cards like normal, download there corresponding drivers, download the physx patch and i'm sorted?

If so do updates to the drivers mean i'll have to wait for a hybrid patch?

Yes, it's that simple. When I ran the nvidia driver, I would wait till the files were extracted to my pc and cancel the installation, delete the hdmi driver and 3d driver. Then I would install the driver from the C:\Nvidia directory so that I didn't install any unwanted drivers.

Up until last month when I went xfire and lost the slot for my 9800gt, the Hybrid PhysX Mod 1.04ff has been working for 257.21 and newer drivers.

It's not a hassle mate - none at all
A 460 will provide nice power too

BTW, are you selling a 460 then? Is it single slot?

Getting PhysX to work with ATI is easy, once you know how. I’ve done it twice before this

1. Download your choice of ATI driver – preferably 11.2 or 11.4 beta
2. Download 267.51 nvidia drivers – this includes .0514 physx software

Nvidia drivers 267.91 http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=2697 (64bit), 267.91 http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=2696 (32bit)
ATI http://downloads.guru3d.com/Videocards---ATI-Catalyst-Windows-Vista_c31.html

3. Download the 1.04ff patch
4. Uninstall all drivers. Use Driversweeper in safe mode. http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=1655
5. Physically install all cards
6. Reboot normally. Install ATI drivers first. Reboot
7. Install nvidia drivers second. Do not reboot straight away
8. Use MSCONFIG to reboot into safe mode
9. Use the “Hybrid-Physx-mod-1.04ff.exe” in admin mode. Press Apply.
10. Do step 9 again – just to be safe
11. Go into the “Extras” folder. Click on the “…Manual.cmd” file
12. Then click on the “set-GPU.cmd”
13. Reboot normally
14. Use Fluidmark to test that Physx is on the GPU
15. If not, extend the desktop to the nvidia card. Force it
