My EK blocks nickel flaking off.

Which is why you should have bought them from OcUK :p
TBH, I doubt OcUK would've given you a refund :p

However, IIRC, you are only entitled to a repair/replacement

1.) OCUK didn't/don't stock 6870 blocks.
2.) I have the opinion OCUK would have refunded.
3.) I'm entitled to a refund as it's not fit for purpose.

Also, you can try saying that it causes you too much inconvenience to wait for a full RMA to go through so a refund is most practical

Quite a common problem - glad you have pictures, because I know a couple of OcUK employees here who don't believe this can happen :p

who would they be... :p

Interesting to see if they post in this thread and if they do what they say about it. Since they work for an e-tailer they might be able to explain why you are having trouble getting the refund. Of course OcUK's policy might be different so they may not understand either.

Consumer rights > E-tailers policy. :p

If the nickel damages other pats eg, the pump, whose fault is it then?

It doesn't really flake off more disintegrates into the system.

I have been running tests now for a bit with a EK block that has this problem (bought it off some one on ebay for testing only) with some premix and the problem never got worse. How ever when i moved across to kill coil and Ultra Pure it carried in disappearing. So i tested Just Ultra pure on it own and it stopped again. The last but not least tested it with our biocide which is copper sulphate and it started to corrode again ...

I cannot explain why it happening my self and dont know how ever we sent EK eddy lots of pre-mix and he found when using pre-mix it stops it from happening.

OcUk know about it trust me, my SR-2 block has copper shining through in a place where it just shouldn't be, the nickel has just worn away seemingly just from water running over it. Problem is that they don't do the SR-2 block in anything other than nickel and they haven't yet and are unlikely to release one with the new plating :( So I'm stuffed.

Problem is EK want you to send the block back using their RMA process, so thats what OcUk told me to do, but tbh right now its just such a huge pain to do and I don't want another one of the same type back.

EK RMA upgrade for corrosion - 14/06/2011

RMA is upgraded on two points:

1. We are lifting the RMA limit on corrosion to full 24month from the end-user purchase date without limit.
2. EK will cover all shipping costs of the RMA block to reseller and shipping of the replacement block back to customer.

The procedure of RMA request stays the same; filling the RMA form.

They will refund the postage and everything basically but you have to send it back yourself. Which can leave you with a PITA to remove everything and some substantial downtime.

All i use is distilled and a kill coil. Its nopthing to do with what you put in it, thats just a smokescreen for ek to try and get out of it. Otherwiseeveryone else in the industry would be saying the same thing.

So am i right in saying that a kill coil and premix fluid (not together) stop the corrosion?

It's a problem with the EK plating process with Nickel, though as shown in this thread, not exclusive to EK, as Koolance are suffering.

The people in denial will likely end up having to replace their blocks, as a lot of people have bought EK Nickel blocks.

Given my blocks are over 8 months old, it's a long term issue.

That koolance block isnt corrosion, its friction imho. Koolance hashad their problems in the past with using steel instead of copper in their nickel screws a while back.

It also appears not many reports are of cpu blocks, more vga blocks and mobo ones. Gotta be a bad/cheap manufacturing issue.

My Nickel EK supreme is a good 3-4 months old now, running in my system with Clear EC6 coolant. I'll be draining the loop soon in order to fit a GPU waterblock to my 6970 card so I'll be dismantling my cpu waterblock to see if the nickel has been tarnished in places.

Quite nervous about all these problems occuring lately, especially with EK.
