Off to the Hawksmoor in Covent Garden tonight, recommendations!?

I'm a Hawksmoor frequenter and I suggest you get chateaubriand and lobster. This is the best meal they do in my opinion and the opinion of many others who have tried it!

Just got back...so stuffed.

Had Sirloin steak, beef dripping chips, mash potato, 1 x ale, 1 x cocktail and a dessert.

For the 4 of us it came to £165. Was a lot more casual than I expected though! Staff don't even wear uniforms!

:)

I <3 the Hawksmoor. Tempted to find some people with which to do a Sunday lunch there this weekend as I don't have much else on, especially as I can still just claim that it's my 25th birthday week!

EDIT: Table for 4 booked on Sun xD

Just thought I'd res this thread to update with my Hawksmoor visit this afternoon. I've really lost count now how many times I've been to the Hawksmoor, but every dining experience continues to be a great occasion. For the first time I opted for the roast dinner and, I must say, it is incredibly good. So good that it seems unbelievable they are charging just £17.50 for it. You will pay that for a chewy bit of sirloin at Frankie & Benny's!

Really nice crunchy roast potatoes (just how I like them), sliced carrots, a mound of cabbage, onions (a fave of mine with a roast!), clove of garlic and a nice big dollop of hot horseradish. Then the beef - fantastic. Tender and particularly flavourful, and a huge cut. Really, really enjoyed it. Next time you aren't busy on a Sunday, take a trip down and grab a roast dinner. Even with wine and desserts you aren't going to break the bank!

I went yesterday as well. Unfortunately, due to the amount of alcohol I'd consumed over the previous few days, I felt instantly sick as soon as I started tucking into the cheeseburger.

I always mess up when I'm there. Eyes bigger than stomach leads me to buying more food than I can eat, and I always go for a more significant meal than I really want. My mate went for the Sunday Roast yesterday and said it was immense. I stupidly changed my mind from their Egg and Sausage muffin to the Cheeseburger, and it was far too rich for my stomach.

As always, service was faultless and the Shakey Pete's Ginger Brews were awesome as well.

Haha, what time were you there? We were there from 2 PM 'till around 5 PM, sitting down the back in the middle section, next to the table with the guy wearing a bright red raincoat for most of it.

I was in the opposite state, having a macchiato to start, a roast dinner with a side of macaroni cheese, finished off a bit of someone else's fillet, some sorbet, a Shipwreck brandy and another macchiato. I then came hope and had a sausage roll and a chinese :p

Somehow I'm about 8.5 stone!

Haha, sounds like you had a better day than I did. Our table was at 12.30 and we must have been out by 2 I imagine. We were sat out back on one of the big tables in the middle of the room.

Not sat in that part before and I was really impressed. Due to the 3 day hangover, it was prefectly dark and quiet in there - exactly what I needed.

I've been meaning to have their muffin for ages now, and also the cornflake milkshake as apparently it's amazing. Do need to have another steak in there though - only had steak there once and wasn't really impressed (the waitress forgot to offer us any sauces, peppercorn, stilton, etc.) so 400g of pure fillet was quite dry going down!

You ever been to Goodman? If not I'd thoroughly recommend it. It's the New York version of London's Hawksmoor. It's a bit more brash (as you'd expect), but due to knowing quite a few people who work there I always seem to gravitate towards a Goodmans over a Hawksmoor... Although I think I've come to the belief that the meat at Hawksmoor is better than Goodmans, but Goodmans wins hands down on the side dishes.

Yeah Seven Dials Hawks has a really nice dark and rustic atmosphere. I'm a fan. Not tried the Cornflake Milkshake but it does sound good! Will give it a try next time I'm there (won't be long :p ).

Until Sunday I'd only ever eaten chateaubriand there, so it was nice to try both the roast beef and a bit of leftover fillet. Both were fantastic. The main eater of the fillet commented that it was a bit dry (though apparently not the section he left me). I'm a rare steak person so dry is not really something I ever experience unless it's ruined!

Goodmans I haven't tried. One of the party had and says it's very good, so we have pretty much all decided to go there soon. I think another one of us is heading there maybe tomorrow? Would you recommend Mayfair or City? I like the Hawks sides so I'm quite excited to see what they have! My ideal order at the Hawksmoor is 600g of chateaubriand, half a lobster, mac and cheese and baked sweet potato. I'll try to get a similar match at Goodmans so I can compare.

Writing this at lunch time is making me salivate :D

My lunchtime trip to Gregs has bought me back down to earth...

Both Goodman restaurants are fine. West End is a bit more relaxed, whereas the City one is quite business-minded.

Sides at Goodman I'd recommend would be the creamed spinach with gruyere, and the ginger and honey glazed carrots (you'll never eat a nicer carrot for the rest of your life!). 400g fillet, rare/medium-rare with peppercorn sauce (and the above sides) with a bottle of Gevrey Chambertin or pint of Greenwich Meantime = Heaven

Hehe I just had a liquid lunch... unfortunately a Starbucks frappuccino rather than anything more interesting!

I'll certainly bear your recommendations in mind when I eventually grace the doors of Goodmans! Thanks!

Woohoo, gf is taking me out for epic mealtime tonight for my birthday :D

Do I go D-Rump or Porterhouse?

Me: D-Rump
Her: Whatever
Shared sides: Beef dripping chips, baked sweet potato, mushroom, mac & cheese

Sounds a goodun!

Oooo, as desparate as it sounds, I took the day off work today and went with a mate to Hawksmoor again. If you decide to go overboard on the wine, pick up a bottle of the Gigondas - goes really well with the Fillet and peppercorn sauce.

Also, if you have a look on their website they're releasing a recipe book! It covers their cocktails as well as the food. whoop!
