Put down a deposit on a car yesterday, started out with all the excitement but I've slowly realised I've just overpaid massively simply because the first one I saw was a complete shed so I've leapt at a half-decent one. The car was about £500 overpriced to begin with thinking about it and I only got it knocked down £150 :(

Taken a shine off it really, because I was like a schoolkid in a sweetshop at first - anyone else get this feeling much? I have to say of all the cars I've bought, I've only not felt this concern when buying a clearly mint condition one.

I have made much bigger car buying mistakes than £350 !

Just forget it.. unless it is a really cheap car then it is difficult to value to the nearest £350.

It depends on the total price of the car. But £350 is a small extra price to pay if it's the "right" one. You could easily blow that on a tidying up a few items on another car.

I have had a recent balls up in terms of changing cars/saving money e.t.c which has made me majorly think " what have i done!" as well.

it is a horrible feeling but there is not a lot i can do and im just going to have to get on with my life. It's only money after all......:(

Thread is useless unless telling us what car it is!

The coolant is suspicously bang-on minimum, the front tyres are shagged and the rear electric windows don't work.

The point isn't so much the money - while £1650 is the most I've ever spent on a car I'm well aware its not that much if the whole % of value aspect is taken away - as the way its gone from total excitement (its a red V6 Alfa!!! ) to worry so quickly and I was curious if anyone else has the same terrible habits of over-excitable decision making and constant worrying.

Isn't that standard for an Alfa?

Bet it sounds nice though :)

Coolant - Might be a problem, but might not be. It doesn't necesaryuily indicate an issue. The owner may just have not topped it up. Also any other car you buy with 'normal' levels of coolant may hide issues anyway. So this isn't necessarily and indicator to worry about.

Tyres - This is a wear item so all cars need them at some point anyway.

Windows - Probably a relay somewhere. Not sure if they have different relays front and back. Check for common issues on the Alfa forums?

They don't sound so bad really, especially for a car that age. It's also quite cheap so it's not unreasonable to expect some small items that need attention (althoguh I don't know if it's cheap for an Alfa of course):

I have buyers remorse, heres the story...

An old chap who lives near my parents was selling his Fiat Punto, 51 reg 49k on the clock, not much by the way of service history but it has a few receipts and stamps.

It has been owned by the old chap and his daughter before him only and since he has owned it has had 11k miles put onto it in 4 years!

Anyways he was getting rid because his kids and grandchildren had all clubbed together for his 70th birthday to get him a second hand hyundai i10 so this car was surplus to requirements.

I got it for £300, well £280 because he gave me back £20 to put some petrol in!

Its not in marvellous condition, has taken a few knocks and has a fair few scratches but at the end of the day this car is going to be used to go to work monday to friday (25 mins commute, very rarely get above 50) and to throw the bike in the boot.

Even though on the outside this feels like a decent deal & the insurance is less than £200 per year i still have buyers remorse thinking that i could have gotten more for my money.

Think its perfectly natural.

Zoot, you have to be joking.

You got what sounds like a decent running car that has been owned by the same person for ages for the price of a old used iPhone.

Really what more do you want for 280 quid? The the price of a single run flat tyre

Lol, I know, i have jackets that cost more than that!

£280 for any MOT road legal car is a bargain. It's textbook banganomics!

Op bought an Alfa?

You fool

But if it's from a dealer don't worry he'll pay more to fix what breaks in the first couple of weeks than you overpaid :)

Our 156 we bought a couple of weeks ago is. Back at the dealer again for another lambda sensor I'd imagine a paid of lambda sensors has put a bit of a dent in his margin

But nice call v6 black leather in red means epic win on the 2 days a month it works

All the best from a fellow Alfa owner
