***The Official Samsung Galaxy S III Thread***

Sammobile's latest tidbit seems to suggest a 4.8" screen with 5 capacitice buttons down below and once again they re-confirm the 7mm thickness and lighter weight than the S2. Also theys ay it will sport the Exynos quad core processor instead of the better dual due to a debate resulting in use of the quad for the "modern" feel.

Hmm.

Oh I hope they don't go down the route of making it as slimline as possible so it is thin but the battery is pants etc.

It could happen as well because a lot of people would buy the phone going on looks as opposed to what actually makes up the phone.

Well if it's a quad then the power consumption may well (should) be lower anyway especially as each core draws less power anyway and when 3 shut down when idle...!

Samsung specifically mentioned they were going to bump up the batteries in their phones. On top of this 4G requires quite the battery, there being no 4G in the UK increased battery is one side benefit.

Regardless, Screen on is the main power draw isn't it?

Anyways if it looks pretty I will probably still get it eventually :p, just hoping if that does happen they release a nice extended battery like they did for the s2.

I think the bigger point is that phones really are reaching the limit off how fluid they are, the 4 and 4s is not much of a difference and that's adding a whole new core. Then compare the 4s or SII with something like the HTC One X its only a bit faster and that again doubling the cores. At this point all the platforms are very fast and fluid. android did take a while to catch up but was mainly due to not having hardware acceleration.

I think what's more important now is screen, camera and material used.

I'm very excited to see what Samsung pull out and hopefully it isn't a disappointment, and then we get the iPhone 5 shortly afterwards so should be very exciting.

That's assuming you cared about the processor speed in the first place. Its relevant to Android of course but not other platforms. Design, function and speed all matter but the hype over processor speed is just that, hype - for marketing purposes.

Personally I wish there was a creditable competitor to iOS/Android, frankly I dislike both.

Well Samsung's cloud service is due to release as well as Google's Drive service so...

Right now samsung is in a great position I think, there have a crazy amount of hype/hate, almost every fanboy on sites tech sites that isnt a fan of it hates the S2 which shows how much of a great phone it is. However I think they need to get a few key things correct and I predict close to iPhone sells; very quick release and a very timeline global release and not have a 8 month wait for america.

The SII's build is horrible, its good because it has a fast processor and a decent screen, thats about it.

Please confirm how the S2 has “horrible” build quality?

1: It does not creek.
2: It does not flex.
3: If dropped, it does not suffer much damage due to its weight and thin-ness.
4: The back cover is unbreakable (videos on youtube).

The only reason some people consider it bad build quality is because it’s so light and gives the perceived feel of lower quality compared to a heavier phone from say, HTC.

Samsung have said that the S3 will be slimmer and lighter than the S3, lord help those people above.
