R9 290X Owners Thread

So what's everyone expecting from their new purchase clocks-wise? Looks like clock ranges may be similar to the 7970, with ~1200mhz on air ~1300mhz+ doable on water.

Any idea what voltage controllers are used too?

Some of you are in for a beastly upgrade, I moved from cf7970 to a single 780oc and without fraps running I can't tell any difference - which in a round about way is a good thing :)

I predicted we'd see similar clocks as a 7970. As with the 7970 you'll need a better cooling solution than reference to get the most from the card. With the higher operating envelope of the 290X there might be a chance of getting decent overclocks with the reference cooler. The problem is though you'll likely have to set the fan over 55% or higher which will make it loud.

290X uses a brand new voltage controller as well.

So I see from orangeys post, developed by amd too! With it beng the same controller as found on fm2 I wonder if it can be manipulated to push higher then is offered out of the box.

Well just got mine. Working at Post office does help :D

If it's cold you can hook it up to a generator and take it around with you. Sorry I couldn't help it. :D

I will also be buying a space heater when the non refs come out!

This thing is heavy !!! Its like my 7950 with waterblock on.
Its got quite cool graphic on it that i was not expecting. I bet temperatures of this monster will burn it off LOL

BTW. No Golden ticket with my card.

Now only 9 hours at work Go back home drain my water loop take 7950 out. Fill the loop and testing time begins.
Best thing is when blocks arrive will do it again but need to clean my CPU block. I bet its got some oxidation inside cause temperatures are not what they used to be. Not looking forward to that bit :P Remember boys and gals EK nickel block + kill coil = NO GOOD. Sticking with normal one this time heh.
