Ballon d'Or 2013 (Ronaldo, Messi or Ribery?)

Platini complaining that Ribery didn't win, which frankly just makes it even better :p

Ribery is a great player but I don't think he was even in the top 3 best players at Bayern. The award used to be based heavily on what cups were won in the year, which is daft because it meant, it wasn't the award for the best player of the year, it was always an award for the best(or maybe most popular player) in the best team of the year. It SHOULD be an award for the best player at any club, which with Ronaldo winning it is.

Even then that is stupid because Ribery wasn't, for me, even close to the best player at Bayern last year.

Last year in all competitions Muller scored 22 and got 15 assists for Bayern, Ribery scored 11 and got 18 assists, playing in similar positions, though it's Ribery's preferred/best position and Muller is to some degree being played out of position. Muller was involved in more goals than Ribery, and was FAR more effective in the champs league. Ribery 1 goal 2 assists in 12 games, Muller 8 goals 2 assists in 12 games.

Muller did more for the team, has much less pace and agility than Ribery, would probably do better in a more central/forward role, and was significantly more effective for his team in this treble winning year. Highest scoring player in the team last year, and second highest in assists, Ribery highest in assists but 6th highest scorer, with all 4 players between them playing less than Ribery(some much much less).

Ribery didn't score in the final, didn't assist in the final, wasn't the teams best player, wasn't instrumental in getting to the final, I honestly don't have a freaking clue why 3-4 players in the Bayern squad weren't up for it ahead of Ribery. That is before you take into account Ribery's love of the dive and generally being a bit of a ****.

Robben scored/assisted in the final, scored against barca, Muller dominated Barca, was easily the best player on the pitch in both games, and was good but didn't get a goal/assist in the final. Robben also seemingly scored/assisted in most stages of the german cup as well.

Robben had a huge portion of the season out injured(23 starts to Ribery's 38) and still got 13 goals(more than ribery) and 10 assists. Robben turned up in all of the big games, scored/assisted crucial goals that got them to the treble. At very best Ribery was the third best offensive player in that team, and for me with the keeper, Dante and either one or both of the central mids were better than him also.

Seriously what makes Ribery Bayern's best player last year, that he's french and Platini was desperate for French football to seem relevant?

It's like what Beckham said when nominated years ago, "Best player in the world? I'm not even the best player at my club"

So the reserve team of the year has been shown:

Reserve FIFPro XI: Casillas, David Luiz, Pique, Marcelo, Alaba; Ozil, Bale, Y.Toure; Neymar, Falcao, Van Persie

Someone please explain how Casillas who played just 270 minutes of football in 2013 can be the second most voted for keeper its a joke.

Per Mertesacker has had a better year than Luiz. Pique and Iker should be no where near this list.

They haven't been in a CL final in over 10 years. With their team, you'd expect more.

Changing manager every year for seven years isn't a great idea and when you finally get one who stays for three years he's more concerned about his own ego and battles, assaulting fellow managers and masterfully losing European semi finals as usual.

Would've like to see Pellegrini have stayed there longer, his points total the year he lost was crazy with the first year of all the new purchases

Yup Real focus on big money and big names and pursue it to the detriment of the team. Kaka not being played and his friends not being happy with it, when they should never have bought him to start with. Sacking Pellegrini when he had, I think their highest ever away points total or something, maybe their highest points total, can't remember. Either way he had a great year and only lost the title due to Barca being all but epic that year.

But no, Mourinho was "available" and he was a big name thus must be had, even though he got a lower points total in his first year and almost got fired for playing dire defensive football that got them a 5-0 thrashing at the hands of Barca in their first el classico.

Even worse was they knew what kind of football he was known for, and got rid of one of the easiest on the eye manager styles in football today to bring Mourinho in. Mourinho unsettled the whole team, won a single league title in 3 years and it's because Barca dropped more points compared to the previous year than Real gained.

I really like Ronaldo and feel it's a shame he ended up at the stupidest team in Europe. They have no right to win it purely because they spend as much as they do, however with the amount they spend, they should be getting into UCL finals every other year and have a MUCH better team than they do.

So it turns out that the UEFA fans are better at picking a team of the year than Fifa (or the people who vote under Fifa) are:

Uefa team of the year 2013: Manuel Neuer (Bayern Munich); Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid), Thiago Silva (Paris St-Germain), Philipp Lahm (Bayern Munich), David Alaba (Bayern Munich); Franck Ribery (Bayern Munich), Marco Reus (Borussia Dortmund) Mesut Ozil (Arsenal); Gareth Bale (Real Madrid), Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid), Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Paris St-Germain)

I'd question Ozil, and possibly replace him with Muller, but apart from that it's pretty spot on in my opinion. Possibly Filipe Luis in for Alaba as well, but that's pretty close.
