How come results vary so much from card to card?

e.g. Top 780 - 4369

There are are some 780s around 2604

Just trying to work out if I buy another 670 and go SLI or sell mine and go 780

For one, that scores for a 780Ti.

The highest scoring 780 is an Overclocked Water cooled EVGA 780 Classified.

8, #3730 - 780 @ 1430 / 3944 - newhit

Quite a big difference in these two. Just the overclocks i guess

8, #3730 - 780 @ 1430 / 3944 - newhit
#2604 - 780 @ 1241/1782 - Kei

Because Newhit has a high end CPU with a massive OC, it gives him a boost in scores alone but then take his 1430Mhz clock and 1972Mhz memory compared to 1241Mhz and 1782Mhz memory, there is a massive fluctuation in scores.

Don't expect to get Newhit clocks though, as he is on extreme cooling :)

Not a million miles away on stock cooling. ;)
