Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [21st - 25th November 2014]

I gotta say, although Hull did go a man down, they were one goal up when they did. That often results in the team that's winning but a man down becoming more constricted and more difficult to play against.

Spurs unwound that and the stats speak volumes too. 73% possession with 23 shots and 6 on target.

In light of that, I think we did pretty well to come away with all three points.

It was :)

True that, one mistake in the season and Slippy G undoes all the good work of top assists, clutch penalties and general contribution throughout the season.

Great, race horses suffer from the same but there comes a point when they go lame and you have to shoot them.

Move on.

You know whats up

Not at all, but outside of set pieces I think his contribution has been greatly inflated in an attacking sense.

Fair enough, I would've loved to seen someone else deal with the 2v1 and 3v1 situations he was facing with a lot of the time in the middle of the park or on the break, would've probably rathered someone more talented than Hendo doing the hard work for him

Cant remember any of those, if u could expand on them would be greatly appreciated

You don't? I'm not going out of my way to pick out many an example where we were left with Gerrard and two CBs running backwards and getting picked apart due to the fact you can't close two people down simulatenously.

Nope, I constently remember Gerrard ball watching or getting caught our of position and our **** poor defending on set peices though.

Of course that could be just down to Rodgers being terrible at setting up a team at defence, and tbh if he cant or wont address that issue then he needs to go.

I remember that at times, I also remember what I said, plenty of issues in our team this and last year, not just one scapegoat :)

Sadly I agree on that, as much as I like and rate him if he won't address it he needs to go, if he can't but gets someone else to help then fair enough.

Hull 3-1 then :p?

No. We didn't lose that game because the defence let us down. We lost it because we were ****ing terrible all over the pitch. It was the worst performance from us all season.
Totally disagree with you re Gerrard Baz (then again we had this last season though :p), as the defensive MF.....

This is why we disagree. He's not being picked as a defensive midfielder in the same way Alonso wasn't and isn't a defensive midfielder. His job is to dictate the play of the game with the 2 men either side of him doing his running and defensive work. If you want to play with an out and out DM in the middle (and Lucas can't do that anymore) then you need a complete new midfield because the likes of Henderson and Allen don't offer enough with the ball to justify being picked without a Gerrard in the side.

Would it be great if Gerrard was as good as Mascherano without the ball too? Of course but he's not and I can't think of a player that can do what Gerrard can with the ball and offers what a Mascherano does without it. We had a system last season which worked perfectly and to put it all down to Suarez and Sturridge's form is plain ignorant. It was our midfield of Gerrard, Henderson, Coutinho/Allen & Sterling that ran over the opposition and allowed those 2 to win us games. As I said earlier, Rodgers needs to find his balls and get back to that style of play because that's the only way our midfield can work.

ok so we are having 3 men to do the job of 2? No wonder we are ****ed. We cant accomodate Gerrard in the team without Suarez, he is a non entity on the defensive side of things and as an attacking force he is spent.

Edit: Why cant Lucas do it in your opinion, he is more mobile than Gerrard, he reads the game from a defensive aspect better, he passing is more progressive. And he has better leadership quailities to his game, especially when it seems a certain player is having one of his renowned hissyfits
