The AMD Driver Thread

I so wanted to post a pic from the NVidia Geforce app telling me that a new driver was available, but I will refrain.

Kudos to Matt for standing there and taking it on the chin and before people say it isn't Matts fault, no it isn't but when you phone the gas companies customer service it isn't the girl on the other end of the phone fault either, but they are the ones you can moan at because the guys who are actually to blame you cannot reach.

It is Matts job to take the responses and make sure they are heard by his bosses. He has already said that he doesn't know when the driver will actually be available, so rather than give out a another date that might not be kept to he has said just that.

As for AMD well there is a phrase, something about a &@#$ up in a brewery. ;)

u like ur fps dating sims huh
how about some moba or a free game to pass the time :)

lol @ fps dating sim. That's actually quite accurate.

There's also Draon Age: Inquisition that I haven't got round to playing yet. And Alian: Isolation. Not sure there's much dating in that, aside from an extra-terrestrial being with a penchant for aggressive french kissing.

Aside from the ranting, Matt, do you know if the driver has the fix for the bothersome DPC/Audio-stutter issue when using Vsync and Crossfire with multi-monitor setups?

Are you using win7?

I had that issue when I was using win7 and 2x290X CF + 20|30|20 monitor setup. Haven't noticed any DPC spikes with win10 + Omegas from 8.1 driver package.

AMDMatt is doing his job and informing us the best he can... nobody can really blame him. Setbacks do happen. I know a lot of us CF users are really ****ed off atm and I somehow get the feeling that AMD driver team is understaffed because they have way too many eco-systems to manage and develop.

There has been at least 4 AMD driver updates to win10 in the past months which have all been horribly broken. Add couple of linux drivers... maybe a mac driver (I don't know what happens in that side of the world) and developing freesync driver to win7 & 8 could potentially mean that AMD just doesn't have the manpower to do enough branches with drivers and are doing them in bigger packages which leads to delays.

Omega was a nice idea but if it means that bigger updates less frequently, some people (mostly CF users) are going to be ****ed because it is not fun to wait for the profiles.

So hopefully they will go back to the old way and release smaller updates so that we "might" get profiles when new games are released.

I'm just on Windows 8.1, it seems to be just to do with the in-game vsync, if i use RadeonPro to do it, it works fine without any stutter. Whilst it is a temporary workaround, it is annoying to do for all games that need Vsync.

I wouldn't want to Matt right now, i'm just going to sit tight and be patient. :)

Far Cry 4: Profile works decently enough.

I think I'm going to have to admit defeat running it smoothly at 4k Ultra though. One minute it shows 90fps and the next there's some weird input lag and stutters.

Memory usage never seems to go above 10500 indicated (and with 3 way SLI that's only 3.5GB Vram) but I just can't get it smooth.

Dropped it down to 1080p and it seemed to be fine.

First time my system hasn't really been able to play something at 4k/ultra :(

In the AMD driver department:

About right.

How dare they forget that we're the centre of the universe

Actually, where I am right now is the center of the Universe

Its clearly Gregs fault, the AMD driver programmers got wind that he purchased an AMD card and they all instantly turned to stone!! :D:p

I can picture the driver team looking at my rig and staring at it for hours and hours and then saying "But he is a raging nVidia fanboy, why would he do that?" and that is them ****** for the rest of the day. I knew my cunning plan would come to fruition :D

Eurogamer seemed to indicate it was a problem with the game, regardless of GPU.

Not just me then i'm glad as i mentioned it to Matt and he said it was smooth on his rig, i have 290x.
I use this user config:

perfoverlay.drawfps 1
render.drawscreeninfo 1
perfoverlay.drawgraph 1
gametime.maxvariablefps 100

On BF4 MP smooth with once in a blue moon CPU spike, use it in BFH single player fine but BFH MP constant stutter!
Makes me wonder whether they used the Frostbite 3 engine which is an older version before BF4 was patched so many times.

While its not life or death the driver delay, When you say sorry drivers delayed But will be out on a certain date it should be ready on that day or you should have set that date a bit later if your unsure.. ^^not aimed at Matt though i understand he can only give us the info he's told

Thanks Bloodkil, that's an interesting development. What settings in RadeonPro causes the issue to subside exactly, can you provide a screeshot please?
