I ordered my Gigabyte 980ti extreme edition on Sunday. Looking at the specs and reviews this was the most overclocked out of the box card from the series.
It is flashy, quiet and runs cool they say. We will see about that.

Also looking at a deal for ichill 980ti Black but it is used and the price is same so probably will stick to my gigabyte.
Hope i won't get disappointed.

I have the Gigabyte GTX 970 Xtreme fastest 970. Its a beautiful looking card. The LEDs are the best I've seen on a GPU. Absolute Beast of a card!

I feel abit sick, not sure if it's because iv'e gone green or the amount of money iv'e spent lol. Still got that little kid inside that's all excited though. Just splashed out on the Zotac Amp extreme. From reviews it appears to be a great performer with "one of" the biggest over clocks out of the box or rather on the boost side anyway. And runs quiet and cool too.

Got a bonus at work and I am asking for OCUK vouchers

Don't know when im getting them but should be in the next few weeks.

Although, I get paid on Monday and could just buy it then. Oh god, I still cant believe I got myself caught in the race for 4k haha

I too have splashed out on one of these, the Gigabyte G1 Gaming, running in a rig with a 4690K and AOC G2460PG 144hz 1080p G-sync monitor. I hadn't expected to see much difference in most less demanding games but it really has. It allows most games to run at 100fps plus thus making my gaming experience ridiculously smooth. Couldn't be happier!

Only issue is driver based - my card shows up as a removable device along with USB drives etc! I thought they'd fixed this? Using 361.75.

Roll back one release and that will be gone. I don't think it causes major issues but for some, it caused a bit of stuttering in game

Nvidia released a hotfix driver for this bug, installed it around a week ago and it fixed that issue immediately. How that bug got there I'll never know.

And I think what you mentioned is correct about the SSD's as my old mobo had that option enabled and I saw the same, but on my new one I have it disabled and I don't have any removable devices showing

So, this might be the year for 4k after checking budgets... Can 2 980 ti's handle full 4k @ 60fps? Or is that still wishful thinking for the titles like Witcher 3, Rise of the Tomb Raider etc.

And what power would be required? I assume a 850 PSU would poo it's pants?

Id say wishful thinking for 4k tbh. 1440p maybe. To max games that are coming up youd be better waiting for pascal/polaris. Even now the 980ti with 6gb of vram can be cvaught out in some gasmes at 1080p let alone 4k. And the 4gb of HBM memory on furyx has been shown to be lacking.

For me as it looks currently, 4k res and gpu's are like the carrot and the stick in front of the horse. The resolution keeps getting higher but the cards cant keep up. Power wise if you did want to run say x2 980ti's in sli with a modern i7 cpu oc'd, id be looking at 1000w minimum. I did run 780 sli and a 4790k at 4.7ghz on 1.300v, in benmchmarks i seen as much as 740w used on a 6 year old corsair hx 850w. Taking into account the age of said psu and it's lloss of efficiency over the years. Id say, do not skimp on the psu, it's the single most important component in a pc that you wish to oc on.

My card was supplied with one cable that converts 2 6 pin into 1 8 pin connector. There's 2 8 pins on the card itself.

Do I need another one or do you only need to plug that one cable into one of the 8 pin slots?

You need to plug both cables in. Don't you have 2 PCI-e cables with your PSU?

Yes. But both 6 pins into one still makes only one 8 pin connector as its a 2 into one cable.

My 2 6 pins are actually 6 + 2's. Will these work like an 8?

The 6+2 cables that came with your PSU will act as 8 pin supply cables. Plug 2 of them into your card.
