970SLI to 1070SLI here we go..

Got mine today! My space heater 290x will be up for sale but I may wait as Ill get a better price in winter.

So you didn't end up hating SLI? After my 970 SLI I swore never to go back.

Not really. In the worst case I got the performance of 1 970 which when I got them was a lot of performance. In the best case I was getting 980Ti ish performance for over a year before the 980Ti existed.

Sure there were a couple of games recently which didn't support SLI off the bat, but either it didn't really matter as they weren't games I needed 100+ fps, or it got fixed.

The only time I've really hated SLI was with the 9800GX2 when farcry 2 came out.

Since then, I've have little or no issues with 275SLI, 460SLI, 670SLI and 970SLI.

lol had the 9800GX2 as well, what a wacky card

Although it wasn't even that loud (got it for 20£ after selling another dumb card, the 8800 Ultra).

For me the breaking point was Far Cry 4, Nvidia banners everywhere and then the shadows were broken for a month in SLI.

Cant wait to see the difference between this and my old 290x. Shame my monitor is freesync as Im losing that. Amd offered me nothing and I needed to upgrade.

Guys, a couple of questions if I may...

So is the MSI Gaming X the one to go for at the moment?

Also I game at 1080p for now. But its pretty likely I'll be going 1440p at some point. Will a 1070 still cut it at 1440p? 1080 isn't needed is it?

Ive got a Dell U2715h monitor which although it is 1440p its also only 60hz. I can max rise of the tomb raider and it never dips below the 60fps using the steam monitor in the top left of my screen.

I did smile when I put everything up as high as it could go and it just sat there at 60. now I can see what you PC gamers mean when you say us console lot are missing out on time.

I spent ages just walking around in the snow just to see the effects in detail from my footprints

It's a really nice card. Dead quiet even under full load. The fans on it reach ~1000RPM at 100% load for extended periods, which is ~100RPM slower than the fans on my MSI 780 Gaming ran at idle. Despite that, I'm yet to see it break 70 degrees. It's amazing how good the cooler is really, given it's "only" a two slot design (albeit taller and longer than you'd think from looking at pictures).

I'm waiting for mine to arrive any moment ,sadly at work,if you don't get any responses regarding noise on the armour I shall do it for you when I get home.

There are a few people who have commented on there armour in this thread in the last two or three pages so maybe look back(all were positive)
