Any reason not to go for the cheapest? (Think it's the kfa)
Not really, unless you're sensitive to noise. None of the fancy custom cards really overclock any better, because they're locked down at a chip level. Pretty much all the more expensive cards offer is lower temperatures and silence to go with them.

The non-blower cards do maintain the higher boost clocks better though due to better thermals. Pascal is very sensitive to temps and will downclock the boost when things start getting warm.

My EVGA 1070 FE max boost was almost as good as my MSI Gaming X, however the FE would drop to around 1950mhz with 70% fan speed (I couldn't hack the noise with any higher fan speed), where as the Gaming X will sit happily at 2050mhz with around 60% fan speed which is very quiet.

Made the leap and bought the Palit GameRock one, not a huge fan of the colour scheme but it'll work well enough with a white case and an ASUS Z170-A.

The wait will be worth it!

Should be a massive improvement over the MSI 670 OC it replaces (which isn't a bad card at 1080p but does have to have some eye candy turned down to maintain good fps).

Looking forward to trying DSR as only at 1080p at the moment however looking for a either "reasonably priced" 2560x1440p g-sync monitor or nice 1080p 144hz monitor next as well as another 8GB of RAM as I think some games may test the limits of the 8GB I currently have.

Why couldn't I have just stuck to console gaming my wallet hurts! :D:D

MSI Gaming X is on it's way.

Fans and clock speeds look slightly better than other offerings, gets great reviews (and it's got a dragon on the back!)

It's part of a new build so testing will take a while.

They're all the same.

Game-Rock on it's way, the only really unique card - cause looks proud to be hideous

Seriously though, all the Palits have the best prices as OCUK bought them before Brexit (or something similar) - if you don't mind the bulky cooler they're the best price-performance 1070 you can get.
Game-Rock Premier also has binned chips and they're just 409£.

Am going to pull the trigger on this...

Is there any reason I should go for some of the slightly pricier models? I'm not looking to overclock it or anything.

Here is another entry :)

Had a quick play around, my founders one does 2100Mhz compared to my MSI Aero @2062Mhz. Needed 100% fan speed, but i'm water cooling anyways.

Got bored waiting for the 1070 Amp (can see it's now in) and switched to Palit Gamerock Premier just in time for Saturday delivery. It may be chunky and somewhat naff design but don't give a monkey's with those clock speeds. :D

It is amazingly quiet. I mean, I've just been using a Radeon 290 which sounds like a hoover, so anything should sound quiet. But even under moderate load I can't hear mine over the other fans, which is an improvement over my old 980Ti as well. I also have my PC situated in the living room and the other half is very happy at how quiet it is.
