After being inspired by Gamers Nexus attempt at cooling the GTX 1080 with the EVGA GTX 980ti AIO Cooler I took the plunge to do it a bit better. I had to completely strip the card bare to get at the fan cable as I just didnt want to risk trying to get it out with plyers. Nvidia have made the blower cooler a lot harder to remove than with the 980ti almost as though they dont want you to. To get the nut screws off the base I had to take a trip to the blue shirts and found in the bargain bin a 16:1 precision screwdriver kit with the correct screwdrivers with a nut head female. No way was I going to risk using plyers.

After that it was straight forward using the existing blower fan and VRM/heatsink. Next the challenge was to get the cowl to fit. Gamers Nexus didnt try this but I wasnt too keen with the exposed look. So took me about 2 hours to hack the sides of the EVGA cowling to get it to fit. Quite pleased with the result although I wont see it anyway when inside.

My max temp recorded was 83c and I could get it down to 78c with a custom fan profile. Can't remember my idle temp exactly think it was 42/45c. After fitting the EVGA 980ti AIO cooler my idle temp is now 30c and so far after running benchmarks and an hour of MGSV max temp recorded is 58c. Better than I expected as my 980ti temp with this fitted was 66c max. Noticed also the boost clock is around 1911mhz whereas before it was around 1864mhz. (no overclock from base of 1607mhz)

The day finally came... Had do some quick bends to change my loop and remove the 980Ti from my hardline, because damn these cards are big. Waiting on the EK blocks to release then I'll add them in. Ordered the HB bridge to replace the horrid looking ones, just realised I need a different size so will reorder tomorrow!

Work to do cabling it all in but my plan is to pick up a new case when its released and the blocks are available, more space, more rads.

Looks good but if you have gta V put all the settings to max plus AA then drive to a grassy area that will tax the gpu core 99% and gpu memory will get great use as well. That will be a true test of temps

I had 970SLI, 980 SLI and Titan X SLI - but only a single 980Ti.

I had the money available so went for 1080 SLI and would do it again as I quite like the 1080 cards - noticeably quieter and quicker.

But it depends what you're looking for. 980Ti will be faster than a single 1080 when SLI is well supported. But you might notice some micro stutter - although not everyone does.
