Well after buying 2 second hand 980Ti's and experiencing coil whine with both, I've sent them back and cut my losses...and I've ordered an MSI GTX 1070 Gaming X - should arrive in the next 2 days! (not from ocuk sadly, their gouging stretches loyalty beyond breaking point).

Upgrading from SLI 970s (both MSI Gaming Xs as well), so hoping for zero coil whine, low temps and quiet fans just like my 970s. Hoping I won't be disappointed!

out of interest, what values are people getting out of their 1070s in Afterburner, in terms of core and memory clocks? My 970s both ran solidly at +150 core, and +300 on memory.

I think you'll be very happy with it (unless you happen to get a stinker but first batches might be relatively high quality as they'll probably be careful not to eff up):). Got one yesterday and it's perfect in practically every regard - very cool, completely silent under load, sturdy and doesn't whine.

I've yet to try OC'ing but I'll give it a whirl this week.

+110/+600 are what I'm running for everyday gaming but it will push higher for benchmarking with fans on full :) it settles down to 2050mhz and mid 70s degrees on the stock fan profile after half an hour or so of gaming, really quiet too, enjoy!

To those who upgraded from the 980Ti.. are these noticeably cooler?

I have a small bed room and an ITX rig, so in these hot days even it managed to heat up my room noticeably after an hour or two of gaming (though it is OC'd to be fair and hitting 75 degrees).

I am thinking of upgrading my graphics card to something than can handle the supersampling I want for my VR headset. I know the 1070 is more attractive in terms of supposed VR support (although I am not 100% sure this will ever be fully implemented like other bells and whistles that are advertised on graphics cards), but also should spit out far less heat than a 980Ti...

But I reckon I can get a used 980Ti for about £100 less.. not an insignificant saving for roughly the same (current) performance. But the temps.. that what will break it for me haha.

My amp extreme idles with zero rpm fans at around 35 degrees and hovers around 60-63 mark at 35% fan speed at full load, looping heaven/timespy...and that is in today's 30 degree+ heat!

Well, for what it's worth, my MSI is significantly cooler OC'd than my 970 Strix was on stock so I'd reckon it should be cooler than a 980Ti:p Just had a solid 20min run around the Soviet Installation Camp in Rise of the Tomb Raider OC'd to 2025mhz/+600 mem and it very occasionally touched 66C (mostly 61-64) with fans spinning only at 40%.

The game was practically maxed at 1440p (besides AA, of course) with only shadows set to high and sun soft shadows to on (barely noticeable during gameplay) and it mostly held 60fps with some dips to 55-57, 49fps was the worst case scenario (still very playable).

Wow, cooler than a 1070, thats great. Thanks for the info everyone. Time to hover my finger over the purchase button.. better sell my 970 quickly too (or at least to someone who doesn't know the new cards are out!)

Yeah so my 1070 Amp Extreme arrived. Couple of pics

The card is absolutely gigantic. Had to remove a HDD tray for it to fit into the H440 (fit with ease, mind). Card sagging very slightly towards the unsupported side but not too noticeable or noteworthy. May look into doing something about that in the future though.

Performs real well though. Think my particular card is 1962mhz out of the box. Currently hooked up to my 4k tv and it's beasting games mostly maxed (with AA turned down a little or grass not on ultra in gta5) in 4k. Been around 40-50fps most games in 4k with that. At least 60 most of the time playing 1440p fully maxed in most games, significantly more in 1080p. Really enjoying it!

To get on the Roll of Honour all you have to do is post a pic with your user name on it of your GTX 1070.

Hey Jono, noticed you put a TimeSpy score up. Do you plan to OC the card more, or like me just use it on stock?

I managed a Graphics Score of 6517, but due to my CPU I end up with a lower overall score of 6228 :(:p:D

Best sort sag out now otherwise you could get heatsink contact problems trying to straighten it back up.

My poor card took a hammering last night.

I have a very small case with hardly any breathing room around it and normally I pull it out a bit into the open when gaming for any length of time.

Gpu usage at 100% coupled with the above and the hot weather gave 83c GPU temps and 99% fan speed!

Mobo was saying 64c too...yikes!

Maybe someone could start a thread about cards sagging as it is an important problem and manufacturers could do more to prevent it.

I think end users should be less tolerant of sagging in the same way as they are of coil whine.

Anyone with the cheap KFA2 blower? Its on sale right now and I'm looking for some feedback... I have an ITX case and it seems like the blowers aren't too bad this time around...

Mine is only slight but I am very particular so I notice it. Not entirely sure what I am going to do about it. Perhaps cable tie the 2x8 pin power cable to the HDD tray above. I don't know. I assume others with heavy cards suffer the same (slight) problem.
