Asus pulling a figure out of thin air so they could claim to have the fastest pre overclocked card you can buy and then finding only about 5% of the chips pass at that speed.

And now going forward everybody has run out of memory.

AT the rate Asus is going it will be October before they have caught up with pre-orders.

Finally got my hands on a pair of MSI Geforce GTX 1080 Gaming X cards. Which is no mean feat in Dubai unless you want to pay silly money for them.

I was also able to sell the previous 980Ti's I had the same day as well - so that covered the cost of one of the new cards.

Overall very pleased with them - noise wise they are quiet when the fans are spinning and I am seeing a GPU boost upto 1961Mhz on both cards using the OC mode in the gaming app.

Here they are in situ (old Nvidia LED bridge in place until MSI release their HB SLI bridge)

EVGA FTW installed today after receiving Thursday. For those contemplating swapping, don't.

The card is superb and has exceeded expectations. The build quality really is very good indeed. Whilst now 2 generations old and not as expensive, it puts my Gigabyte Windforce 3 780 to shame. Every fin on the heatsink is perfectly vertical and equally spaced, the cut outs are all finished very smoothly, the logo, prints and sideplate is flawless (extra sticker to protect it under the wrap)...even the warranty sticker is stuck on perfectly horizontal. The card feels tank like in the hand and despite this, I can't notice any card sag at all. I can't even fault the packaging bar 2 unrelated stickers that look a bit cheap. The tiny bits of attention to detail like the 'master/slave' above the BIOS switch show real thoughts gone into it. It really does reek of quality and it's why I chose the card originally despite the fact other cards will perhaps run a little cooler (they're bigger, so to be expected).

Out the box in a 23-24c room mine boosted to 2025mhz with the lowest clock after warming up being 1974mhz. Whilst not a fault, I do feel the default fan profile is too conservative given this card is designed to run well above reference speeds and only be one model below top end, the classified. Whilst I realise it's a balancing act between cooling and noise levels, the card stays very quiet and I think there was room for increased speeds.

With a custom fan profile roughly 1:1, 105% power target, default temp limit and +20 on the core, I'm barely seeing the card go below 2000mhz after an extended period. It doesn't breach 72c in a 25c room and remains 'fairly quiet'. Over 1:1 and it would always hold 2000mhz+ - in winter/spring temps, easily I'd imagine. The core would likely go a bit further of course, but I honestly don't see the need. Memory running at 10600/5300 - again, haven't pushed further as don't see the need for gaming. There's also more than one review floating about stating results/gains from overclocking the memory beyond 500mhz on the 1080's can result in worse results due to error correction kicking in - not sure if true and perhaps why the AMP is +400.

Haven't had time to look at increases/fps gains much yet compared to my clocked 780, however Firestrike has seen nearly a 75% increase for me at 17190. Given it's heavily cpu dependent in places, I'm fairly pleased. None cpu intensive games like Overwatch see over double the fps as expected.

I can also confirm the LED Visualiser in Geforce Experience can turn off the LEDs with this card.

Oh, and no coil whine

Az, speeds are good buddy. All i have done is download latest driver and i am getting 2050MHz clock with 1012MHz on the memory. That won't even be in OC mode as i haven't installed the STRIX program yet.

Temps are high though, i hit 70C earlier?

Hi mate, mines up and running too, and boost clocks out of the box are identical to yours. This is actually the first card I've got which I'm not even going to bother overclocking now.. maybe when bored later down the line but there really is no need!

The only gripe I have at the moment is the custom RGB lighting required you to use the Precision XOC software, which I dont like. I use Afterburner.

As you stated you can use nvidia experience to customize a little, but only patterns, and not the colours

there must be a third party bit of software out there somewhere!

Same for all the aib cards. Try installing the software, changing things then uninstalling. Should hold the settings.
