What game 'hooked' you the most?

Counter-Strike! Played it from when it first came onto retail all the way upto 1.6! At which point i moved onto Source but CS was never the same for me again! Neocron had me hooked for months! In the end i had to stop playing it because my EX was getting unhappy! Now im hooked on WoW! Played it pretty much all day Friday :( all the way upto 2am! :o DAoC had me hooked, but at the time i didnt have a way of paying for the account monthly so i lost out! Bummer! :(

Doom first.
Then Quake.
Then the whole Command and Conquer series.
More recently, WoW, that game steals lives, and in the case of my housemates, ruins your degrees. :(

Ultima Online - at least 5 years.

I also found I needed to complete all of the original Sierra Adventure games when I was younger - Kings Quest 1 - 7, Police Quest 1 - 3, Heroes Quest 1 & 2, Space Quests, Gold Rush. Great games!

Operation Flashpoint without a doubt, after playing the demo I instantly bought the game and for the next 3 years didnt even consider buying another game. And now that I have bought some other games they dont seem to keep my interest as OFP did. Roll On Armed Assault!! (The true OFP sequel)

Championship Manager on the Amiga. The original one with the made up names. Have now played the franchise in its varies forms for the past 14 years. Obviously switching over to Football Manager when SI parted with Eidos.

I dread to think just how much time I have spent playing it.

I've had quite a few. When I was younger I was able to get sucked into a games more so than now for some reason.

My first totally amazing game was the Age of Empires demo on my dad's laptop before we got a PC.
When we did get a PC I got hooked on Half-life. Got to the Nhialith and lost all my game data so played it all the way through again without even thinking about it.
I then got into online play in the form of Air Attack on Wireplay (my alter-ego is [TKFM] Blacknight for anyone who used to play AA)
Wireplay got me into the Counterstrike beta's and when it died its death I had no choice but to keep playing CS because there were no AA servers anymore (except the German and Korean ones).
Games I really got into after that were Operation Flashpoint, AoE2 and Escape from Monkey Island!
The only recent games that have gripped me have been Freelancer and the CoD series. I keep going back to CS:S and have recently got into DoD:S but with the lag problems mentioned in the other thread in here I've been re-playing CoD2.

Quakeworld, since 1998 and still playing today.

It is the only game to truly hook me. I've started to ease off in recent times, but that's more to do with personal reasons than the game itself. I was basically so addicted during my time at uni that I ended up ruining my degree, and yet I didn't care, because the game is just so exquisite. It's morphed into more than just a casual game for me, I've ended up travelling to Sweden for a LAN, writing articles on websites, adminning in leagues, commentating on big live european matches etc. For time reasons I've had to ease off on that side of things lately, but it's still THE definitive game for me. Basically it has numbed my senses to the extent that I just can't get involved deeply in other online FPS, because their inferiorities in certain areas (mainly less advanced teamplay and slower pace) frustrate me so much.

Prior to getting internet access I was pretty hooked on games like Championship Manager, but not to the same level as QW.

Everquest, during college I think I spent every spare hour I had playing it for just under 2 years :o Still look back fondly on those days though :p
Stopped because I needed to concentrate on my A-Level exams, then after a few weeks break I just didn't feel the urge to play it quite as much.

Exactly the same! I played it for 2 years straight in almost every waking hour. I tried quiting a couple of times but id always come back. Quit again after they patched something and it wee'ed me off so i deleted my char and cut my ties. Have never gone back since. Infact, i havnt been able to get into any MMORPG since, nor really any other games for that matter.

I think im RPGed out :)
