I've got to do a school assembly tomorrow - any ideas?

Telling school children more lies about drugs isn't going to be constructive ;)

Are you saying that heroin doesn't give you a vacant expression and lack of sex drive whilst high?

How many all-boy state schools are there?

Loads. Although the first single-sex school I went to was private, when I moved down to Plymouth I went to another single which was still an all boys school, but was a grant maintained grammar school and hence not a private school.

Both had a head boy even though only one was a private achool.

It's like Batmans sihouette in the sky...mention drugs, Che's there in seconds! ;) :p

I was head girl at a state school (albeit single sex)

what i would do is put 1 stool in the middle and just sit there for 20minutes, get a bit of rest.

and if someones tries to ask a question, ignore them, and make them sit in silence!

that'd be awesome!

Heroin doesn't always give you a vacant expression but I wasn't referring to that anyway, I meant that the general state of drugs education is a joke. Why don't you teach young people how once you've had a bit to drink it's usually quite hard to get it up?

The thinking behind "scaring" people off of using heroin by saying it'll reduce your sex drive and make you look a bit not there is ludicrous. The way drugs education works currently is by pounding the idea that drugs = death over and over and over. Most people my age have no idea what any of the drugs do except they're bad. Of course this works to a degree but the ones who maybe smoke a spliff, have a few pills on a night out or a line of coke, realise that what they were told was a lie and they lose all faith in their drugs "education". It's so patently obvious that the current drugs education does not work when we have near the highest rates of illegal drug use in the whole of Europe.

I am wondering what your solution might be ?

In short, legalisation, failing that, proper harm reduction techniques taught. I'm not going to go into more depth because it'll take it OT and the thread will be closed before there's chance for a good discussion ;) Feel free to make a new thread.

Over to you my friend, you start the thread and I will happily contribute. :)

Oh no no no! I've tried to convince people before but I've come to the conclusion that 30 to 40 years of government propaganda is hard to undo in a single thread ;) I'll remain in the shadows with occasional outbursts.

Hey,
Tomorrow, as part of my duties as Deputy Head Boy of my all-boys school, I'm supposed to do an assembly on any topic to years 10 & 11. It's with the Head Boy, and i'm sure we could rope in some other sixth formers to help. The trouble is, neither of us can come up with a decent idea. It's the difficulty of trying to have a decent assembly, but with a few gags, and the fun that a typical sixth-form-led assembly requires. Any of you have any ideas on topics/methods?
I know it's the Fair Trade fortnight this week, so perhaps something alongs those lines might be topical? We'd thought of some sort of weird blind-date with fair trade foods thing, but i'm not sure how that would go down.

Yes, I know we've left it a bit late, but please, help me fellow OcUK'ers! :)

Many thanks,

Rob.

Tiffins Boys School?
