HI Folks,
Bought a copy of armed assault to use on my new system. I was wondering if anyone else with a 8800GTX single card system had been playing armed assault.

I am curious to see what performance others are getting
I run at 1280x1024 and Iam getting average fps of 50 but it does drop down as low as 20.

Spec:
8800GTX
E6600 - at stock speed
Asus P5W DH
2G Geil PC-6400 C4
Tagan 580W PSU

Exact settings:
Driver standard 96.89 ( from cd)
Nothing changed apart from vsync = off in driver

Game
Terrain: Hi
Objects: normal
Texture: Hi
Shading: Hi
Post processing: Hi
Anisotropic: normal
Shadows: Off
Antialiasing: normal

I seen a chap with crossfire x1950xtx's doing no better its either one hell of a game or its coded terrible, I would say pushing your core 2 too around 3gig mark and some o/c on the 8800gtx would help massivly.

thanks at least i feel better now , i gonna try some OCing of CPU
and see how that goes ( using a tower cooler ).
How much could the 8800gtx be oced to i wonder ?

Your CPU will be bottlenecking that graphics card to hell and back and then back to hell again.

A Conroe at 2.4GHz is a beast, but with an 8800GTX... Your alarm bells begin to ring. Then you find out the resolution is 1280x1024.. The card is being choked.

Either clock your Conroe or up the resolution or both!

But do something... Quick!

What?

If anything, the standard res should help keep fps smooth, conroe at 2.4 should be more than enough as well.

Only game ive come across that eats any system alive is ms fsx.

Lol, you obviously don't get what I'm trying to say.

At a lower resolution the CPU will act as more of a bottleneck than if the resolution was higher.

Yeah im well aware of that fact thanks, i just dont get how a conroe with a 8 series would get 20fps at 12x10.
Doesnt matter what clock speed, even my 930 at stock doesnt dip lower than 45-50 in games ive tried.

i doubt anyone is gonna buy these new cards to run at 800x600. gpu bottleneck will occur even with g80 running in triple sli, when crysis is out. and also othr games like bioshock and stalker.

Fact of the matter is.. Armed Assault is a huge game. Depending on your view distance, there is still a **** load of geometry to draw.. try a small OC on your CPU and see if you get a big improvement..

Have you tried other games? Oblivion? City of Heroes? Are you getting good performance on those games and Armed Assault is the only problem?

Driver standard 96.89 ( from cd)

thats your problem right there.
the drivers that come on the cd that i have been told suck...

update your drivers to 97.28 or 97.02 officials.

Are you using transparency aa? That's the only thing that can tame my 8800GTX. Using SuperSampling with 16xQAA can halve the fps in some games.

What on earth are you talking about.

I agree with naffa,

That GTX needs at least 3.4ghz to show its true colours.

8800 GTX's need nice fast conroe to allow them to breathe.

Fact..

Oh playing oblivion with my stock conroe and GTX is like playing oblivion with My 7900 GTX.

Its only when I clocked up the cpu did the the framerate double.

I have OCed my cpu to 3.51G

using 3dmark06 ( free version) I get
10878 @ cpu 3.15G
11037 @ cpu 3.51G

I will run the game for a bit to see what fps iam getting back
I have in the nvidia driver set AA = 4
Antisotrpoic = 4
Transparency = off
Will report back soon with more numbers , and thanks for the advice guys :-)
