not one of those links you posted tests a x000AAKS drive, wd's newest drives. the wd4000yr's and such are western digitals last drives, and as much as i DO trust storage review (thank you), they havent even reviewed the drives yet. Storage review are always very slow at getting the reviews out the door.

I have 2 of those 500gig AAKS myself, and find them plenty fast. Storage review are pretty slow as you said, but do you know who has reviewed those drives then, because you said they were the fastest ? Nice graphs by the way.

Just swapped out my Raptor 150GB for an AAKS......haven't noticed any difference...except the seek chatter is MUCH reduced :)

Spot on, I will never make the same mistake and buy another raptor series again unless they make some revolutionary change. My 74gb raptor offers almost no real life benefits for the price and is very noisy.

HELP

I'd like some help here, Yesterday I recieved the WD and set it up into my computer, but on xp it wasn't showing up as a drive so I tried installing windows on there as like a partition so I'd be able to see it as a drive if that makes sense. When I started up my computer it showed two xp's too boot up so I deleted the new one and it still shows up as two xp's to boot up how do I get rid of the one I installed and get my Hard drive to show up with xp that I've been using before all this?

Sorry guys this is just a quick message so it might not make much sense

Thanks JoeBoi

Can anyone tell me the difference between the Seagate 7200.10 and the 7200.9?

Is the .10 worth the extra money?

Im still not sure on what drive to get.

Joeboi, I got a new 7200.9 which also did not show up. I went into control panel> administrative tools> computer management> Disk Management and was greeted with a prompt to "initialize" and "partition" my drive.

As for 2 Xp showing up control panel> System properties> Advanced Tab> startup and recovery> settings > system recovery and chose to edit the startup file.

The difference between a 7200.9 and a 7200.10. 7200.10 is newer and has perpendicular technology, its a decent drive but not the fastest according to some posts in this thread. Both have 5 year warrenty, and since its a hard drive; unless its very noisy or fails there wont be a lot of difference between the 2. I have the 7200.9 500Gb, got it for £74.14 free del. I purchased it thinking it was the .10 but immediately realised it was the .9 after I clicked confirm. Im not going to lose sleep over it. Its a decent drive and is faster than my diamondmax 10 250Gb 16Mb cache which was my previous best drive.

I may go for the .9 as its only going to be a storage drive anyway, doesnt have to be the fastest thing on the planet. I have a .10 for my windows and apps anyway.

Thanks megatron
