As above.

I have just changed my case to a Lian Li G70 from a Pc60 and whilst it night and day with regards noise and cooling I've noticed that one of my harddrives keeps powering up and then spinning down. It does this every 10 secs. I am assuming that it is the 320gb seagate that i am running vista on, So could i ask is this normal and perhaps i never heard it on my noisier PC60 or is there perhaps some setting i can set to stop this irritating occurance?. Also smart shows no errors with either of the 3 drives.

Cheers

Chris

had the same problem a few months ago.. running vista ultimate and 320gb seagate and 2x250 samsung.. dunno exactly which one is making the "power-up/power-down" noise. to fix my problem i simply changed the power setting. go to control panel > hardware and sound > power options. on your prefered plan click "change plan settings" then click "change advance power settings".. look for hard disk and put 0 or it should say never. This fixed my problem.

Hi

Yeah its set to high performance and when switching off its set to never. I have also switched off defender and indexing but this is really getting irritating.

I might load up XP and see if it happens there also.

try looking to see if it is set to low power consumption in your bios. I set mine to be high efficiency and my HDDs kept slowing and spinning up - made everything a bit slow. but then i changed it back to normal and it was fine.

Strange I had already done that with no effect, yet after a reboot im glad to say that it appears to have vanished thankfully.

Now i just need to do something about the harddrive noise, perhaps a bungie mod or something. Strange how loud fans mask the noise of the harddrives oh well back to my persuit of a cool and quiet pc case!.

Thanks guys

Chris.

For anyone else thats having this problem, it's worth checking that the sata cables are all connected firmly. If i accidentally knock my cables a bit, even if they look like they're in properly, i end up with my drives constantly powering up and down. So i end up having to push them in properly every time i close my case.

Might be the solution if it's not the power saving settings.
