Well i have a Amd64 3500+ manchester core which i paid 150 for.
Ive been reading reviews on the opteron 144 and when its overclocked it has similar or better peformance than a fx57.

and is the 144 worth getting as ive ordered a scythe ninja to oc my next cpu
or stick with 3500+ and over clock that ?

Why don't you try clocking your 3500+ with the Scythe Ninja first to see how well it clocks? If it doesn't do as well as you'd hoped you can then consider upgrading to another CPU.

What mobo do you have? If you were to buy the 144 you'd need a board that overclocks well to get it to a good speed. Typically 300+ HTT. The 146 is a better option as it has a higher multi and is still a good value buy.

A 144 can reach FX-57 speeds, but it's tough to do without really good cooling and decent overclockers board. The scythe ninja is really good for a passive cooler (if i remember correctly), but it probably won't get you to 2.8ghz stabley. Try a freezer 64 pro, they seem to be the best value cooler at the moment.

Depends what you're after really - if you want the bragging rights then get a 146 (make sure you get a good stepping though!). In real terms the performance gain will be minimal, but hey - whatever floats your boat, we all love those extra few Mhz!

The Ninja is awesome if you couple it with some 120mm fans!

Yep - 2nd hand Cabye or Cabne would be awesome, the Cab2e's were supposed to be quite good as well - but it was the rumours that the original 146's were rebadged FX57's with the multi locked that really got peaple going - and the fact that some of them were getting to 3Gh on air...

My 144 is a Cab2e. I doubt it would do more than 2.9 on air, but like all 144s the biggest limit factor is the low multi. I've still had it 2.85ghz (stable enough for browsing the internet, but not for gaming), but I don't think either my cooling or motherboard is up to pushing it much further.

well guys ive decided to go for a 146 with scythe ninja

see if i can get 2.8 on air will this in theory be fx57 speeds ?

Plus what ram do you guys recommend ?

mobo being used
ASUS A8N-SLI Premium

Or over clock my 3500+ manchester core ?
REVISION BH9-E4

i have geil value at the moment but will be getting Gskillpc4000 soon.

Ive never had a manchester core (or a 3500 come to that)

Good choice.... if you can get hold of the cabye0540 or early cabne's your laughing.

Ram.... go 2gb whatever you get... thats the way forward with this board.... until AM2 & DDR2 come along :)

So 146 is my best option.. Is the ones on ocuk this type..

not sure, i got mine and its CACJE 0604 CPAW stepping for £113. Ocuk may be different stepping but i would imagine you can get 2.7-3ghz out of them
