I just thought of them....

How tasty are good cornish pasties! the ones ya get in places like "Greggs" etc are tastless, empty and not remotely similar to geniune ones.

Any cornish people here make em? My mams auntie used to make them (she lived in truro) and we used to bring em home in a big box when we left

Any fans? :D

i like proper ones.. i hate greggs fullstop.. but there is only one cornish pasty ive ever really liked and that was from some baker in the lake district.. cant remember now as i was young.

think the filling had everything in, and there was no cave air within the pasty, just stuff

Love them.

I usually pick one up from the West Cornwall Pastie Co. stands at Marylebone or Waterloo when I pass through.

I dont personally make them but "W.C.Rowe" in truro is the best place for cornish pastys ever!!!

I may see if they have a website, dont know how they make them that good, there was a place better than them called Blewetts but they got bought out by Warrens who are horrendous in comparison lol!

greggs have that horrid buttery smell when you walk past...

like overload of fat and that in the pastry.

and their corned beef filling can be sucked up with a straw...

My mum used to make them a few years ago and they're a lot nicer than the crap you get from most of the bakeries that buy them rather than make their own. The ones that do make their own generally use nicer pastry and higher quality meat. Why don't you try making one? I can't remember if I got a pasty badge while I was in the cubs but I had to make one to get some sort of badge and it wasn't very difficult.

Yup... Big fan here. Could eat them till the cows came home - which is good cos you need good beef to make em.
Been successful at making them a few times recently.. nothing beats a good W.C Rowes pasty though for consistancy.

And its PASTYS
not pasties

Yummeh! Oh so good its a meal in snack-like sizing.
You obviously havn't been getting them from the right place ms. Star. ;) Large chuck steak is hardly a snack ;)
My homemade ones span two plates sometimes ;)

The only thing that beats them is a Meat and tater pie from Wigan, theres a certain type in Wigan that are unbelievably good, i cant remember the name but Johny Vegas is always banging on about them.

best pie ive had is from this butchers down bishop auckland..

do a big round steak pie.. and the steak is unreal... like boulders of steak pact into the pie with an ale gravy and onion mixed it...

there is more meat in it than getting a 16oz steak... its unreal...i know people are going to go ott when describing their pies.. but OMG

Theres a shop near me that do steak and ale pie with mash carrots mushy peas and onion gravy all in a big tray. I can just about eat it all but i cant do any work after it for a good few hours :D .

im afraid im gonna have to hunt a good pasty tomorrow when im at work :), they had some in morrisons when i was in today but didnt get one... might have to try and see how they fair.

They are gorgeous when they taste slightly peppery and have all the good veg inside.

mmmm

few weeks ago when i went to St Ives,Cornwall for art trip those cornish pasties owned!!so tasty,my mate bought 10 of them home!!

Did they not originally contain both the traditional Pasty filling in one half then another half with a fruit filling to make a "Complete" meal for the miners?

Anyone tried one of these pastys?
