Dead Island releasing in 2011, PS3 version confirmed

DeepSilver’s formally confirmed it’s to publish Techland’s Dead Island with a release this year. The publisher also confirmed that a PS3 version was in the works. The game was previously a PC and 360 exclusive.
Today’s news follows the release of a trailer from the game last night, the first in three years. The video has even become, and still is at the time of writing, a trending topic on Twitter.
The game is set in a first-person perspective on a tropical island. It’ll have a heavy focus on “character development and customisation” as well as a “vast array of weapons” with melee being a heavy focus due to “firearms and ammunition being scarce.”
Dead Island will have four-player co-op as well.

the trailer looks very good , for some reason the art work reminded me of heavy rain .
if they put that much thought in a trailer hopefully the game will be as good .

The music in the trailer reminded me of Lost.
Looks promising - as far as can be gauged from a trailer.
I am getting a bit sick of zombies though - and I'm a zombie fan!

Looks awesome - and the environment is stunning (but you should remove the hotlink screenshots in the OP)

Left 4 dead on the PS3 lol Fantastic trailer... Looks interesting don't mind a zmobie game now and then... Not like we've not seen many of them before.. Erm hmmm.. :p

That trailer is pretty awesome, I'm a bit disappointed to hear that it has a big focus on melee weapons and that guns will be very scarce, I like shooting things. :(

WOW That CG on the main character is phenomenal... Looks a great game.. If it has zombies, a great story and a more structured than Dead Rising Games it will be a winner..

Great trailer but...

1. Is that in-game? If it isn't then it tells us practically nothing.
2. Even if it is in-game...it's still a cutscene. Doesn't tell us much.

I'm not sure how you can tell it looks like a great game for that, plus isn't everyone getting a bit fed up of zombie by now? It's the new flipping WW2 game, except combined with the fun for developers that they don't really have to do A.I. Just one line of programming

If 'in sightline' = 'human' then 'go get brains'.

Fair point, but it IS inventive, unique and powerful. The fact that the development team created that, put a unique twist on something that's usually generic (trailer for a horror game) makes it a promising title as its likely they will carry that creativity over to the game.

I think it's a great trailer and captures what is truly terrifying about the idea of the undead.

I just think that devs are generally getting better at cinematic trailers which create immense hype for the game without really representing what the final product will be like to play.

Companies team on 'Dead Island' project

Sean Daniel, Union Entertainment acquire film rights to vidgame

By Jeff Sneider, Dave McNary
The Sean Daniel Company and Union Entertainment have partnered to acquire feature film rights to the video game "Dead Island" from publisher Deep Silver and Polish developer Techland.
Daniel ("The Mummy") will produce along with Union's Dmitri Johnson and Richard Liebowitz.
The trio have started searching for a writer and are currently in discussions with studios and film financiers about making the movie.
"Dead Island" follows an ax-wielding father who must protect his family from an invasion of zombies while on a tropical vacation. A trailer was released earlier this week and has already become a viral sensation, garnering more than 1.5 million views online.
Union has been tracking the game's development for the past two years, so the explosion of interest from the gaming community has validated the company's instincts.
"Dead Island" is scheduled for release later this year, just in time for the holiday season.Contact the variety newsroom at [email protected] .
