I've just finished watching season 1 and I have to say it is nothing short of SUPERB. I cannot understand why this program is barely mentioned on OcUK, it is without a doubt it is a match for The Wire which is held in very high regard. The program delivers some of the best acting i have seen on either TV or film. The characters are engrossing, the set and costume design is fantastic but most of all the dialogue and scripting is as about as close to perfection as you can imagine.

The series is set in late 1800s America following the lives of people living in a newly founded gold panning town, a town with no law or authority. There isn't a single storyline that progresses through the whole season but rather it has smaller sub-plots with the town itself being the 'story'. There is some quite horrific violence at times and you really do feel the emotion and fear that the characters experience - such is the quality of the acting.

I often hesitate to label something 10/10 but in this case i cannot think of a single flaw and can't wait to start watching season2.

I've watched them all, they're fantastic viewing.

Can be very violent, but also very funny at times too. Al Swearangen is a great character!
I found it hard to understand some of the language occasionally, but you get the general gist of it!

Season 2 is great as well, i hope you like it :)

Great series. Shame it didn't get picked up for series 4 and the movies never came to fruition. However, steer well clear of David Milch's next effort - John from Cincinatti - it is bloody awful!

Recently watched season 1, great show but Ihave to say I've started swearing a hell of a lot more since watching it :D

Yeah, Deadwood is a great series. Really enjoyed it.

The swearing did come as a bit of a shock at first, especially the c word..

Has it been canceled then? Does it finish on a decent note without cliffhangers? If so i will watch it :)

The end is not what it was supposed to be. Definitely worth watching, but don't expect a satisfying conclusion. It's like The Wire without the last episode.

About half way through Season 2 at the moment, and I've also noticed I'm saying certain words that end in 'sucker literally all the time now, for almost no provocation :S

I <3 Al Swearangen

While I do think the first series was fantastic, I thought it went off the boil a bit in series 2, and I sort of drifted off watching it.

I didn't find the characters as "likeable" as The Wire either. Not to say The Wire sugar-coated anybody, but I think they presented them as fully-rounded, humanised people. You sort of understood why even the nastiest people were doing what they were. Whereas in Deadwood, it sometimes feels like the bad guys are simply bad for the hell of it.

Its a brilliant show though. I personally love the characters and they captured the time really well. The quality from each season doesn't seem to differ too much for me, but I would say 1 and 3 were the best with 2 closely behind

The end of season 3 seemed kind of rushed and everything escalated very quickly which was probably down to them knowing they were getting canceled? I'm not totally sure.

Very annoyed about it. Too many good shows in the US get canceled and its starting to grind on me. I was just getting into the first season of Journeyman (similar to quantum leap but gets to go home) and then I find out that's been cut too after 13 episodes.

****suckers ....one of the most cleverly written shows ever.

shame it never had the conclusion it truly deserved and it does labour in Series 3 at times but still had some great moments.

Swearengen and EB had so many memorable moments both together and individually, one of those shows i will watch over and over i think ...like the sopranos.

Whereas in Deadwood, it sometimes feels like the bad guys are simply bad for the hell of it.

you're comparing a show set in the present to something set when times were notoriously difficult.....especially in an outpost like deadwood with no law.....you were hard or you were made a gimp.

the show wouldn't work if a bunch of guys went out on a saturday morning to pick daisies :)

I thought season 1 and 2 were very good but lost interest a few episodes into season 3. The Shield seems to have lost itself a bit now and is getting boring. HBO need to bring out some nice fresh new series.
