I updated my orange N95 using this very guide.

USE AT OWN RISK

This is how you do it

Download & Install Nemesis Service Suite from http://www.b-phreaks.co.uk/software.htm
Download & Install The latest Nokia Update program from http://www.nokia.com/A4176089

Connect your phone via USB in PC Suite mode and wait for Windows to install the drivers.
Open Nemesis Service Suite and click “Scan for new device” on the right-upper part of the window
Click on the icon “Phone info”
Click on “Scan”
Change the product code to whatever product code is relevant and mark the case “Enable”.
Press “Write”, and your phone’s product code will be changed (you might think that nothing happened, because the phone is still in normal mode, and the changing of the product code only takes a couple of seconds, but don’t worry, the product code changed !).
Close Nemesis Service Suite and run the Nokia Software Update.
Make sure not to touch the cable or the phone while your phone is updating or else you will break it!
That’s it! When you restart your phone, it should now be the new firmware version

thanks for the info mate

i thought the Nemesis Service Suite was just so that we can fool the update software in thinking that the n95 is a generic handset.

the handset i have is already debranded and it does find the new software and downloads it fine. It just has problems when it starts to update the handset..

im trying it on my new laptop which has never had any sort of phone program on it, so il see if it works on that.

I had that exact same problem updating my n95 at the start of the week. It killed my handset. All I was left with was a 'greyed out' nokia screen on startup.

It's likely it could be repaired but I doubt it would be covered under warranty as you have modified the product code.

Good luck!

I was updating my phone last night - and debranding it from voda!!

When I did a restore of a previous backup settings the phone ended up as a brick...when I tried to start it, it simply said failed to start, contact supplier....oops.

However....after a quick search you can do one or both of 2 things.....
Hard reset (for a fubar'd phone)-
when the phone is off, press and hold down:
3, * and the Green call accept button
Then whilst holding these down, power on the phone

keep held down until start-up is achieved.
This does format all settings but might help

The other option is a soft reset/format
type:
*#7370#
This reformats completely the C: drive. All applications and files stored on this drive will be lost and clean default files will be rewritten
The PIN is usually 12345

I did both of these, then only restored the contacts, calendar and messages from my backup and now all is peachy.

Hope this helps in some way.

I have a UK orange too, which product code did you change yours too, 0536062 ?

Hey Devious

from memory, that list is split because of the colour of the phone

the top lot of codes are for the grey backed phone, and the bottom half are for the plum colour backed phones.

but if yours is grey backed then I'd say use Euro1 : 0534841

Mine is plum so I used 0536062....I also searched for my product code online and found it was vodaphone Euro1....so I knew to use the OEM plum Euro1 code...see what I mean?
if you know your current code, do a search, find out what area it is and then choose the associate OEM code

that's how I understand it anyways

Yes.

I did exactly that on my orange n95 but make sure you backup your phone first before updating the firmware.

;)
Right. I've updated and restored product code. Few hitches but works fine now.

Although, I've lost a theme (*shakes fist*) that was backed up as it restored but it didn't restore it to the theme menu. Also, I can't change my alarm sound. Actually, I can't change any sounds from within Personalisation > Tone, only within profile. Anyone else had this?

Advantages/disvantages of the other ones? :) /being very stupid. :o

I think it's mainly language issues. Only a couple of them have English, I think it's the Euro 1 and Scandinavia, you get English, French, German etc with the Euro one, and English, Finnish, Swedish etc for the other. I don't know what the difference is between the 2 groups though, i.e. there's 2 codes for each region.

Plus, I think most people have used the first Euro 1 one, and it works, so why use anything else :p

Right..it is now refusing to open up the Nokia Software Update thing...i typed the code in like this: 0534841 and pressed Write etc.

I also can't see what version i'm on...well, doesn't work when i try #0000#.
