Hi rjkoneill,

I am very interested in this headset and I am in an urgent need to get some infos on it before deciding to buy it or not. As you pointed out this headset is new to the market so there are barely any review on the web, and as you say you have tested the pre-production sample maybe you could give me some details ? I would appreciate a lot as I have to order it before this week-end if I want a chance to get it before christmas.

- about sound:

In overall, do you find it good ? I own a sennheiser px100, maybe you know this one and could compare both regarding overall sound quality ?
Are there any frequencies that would predominate ? Gaming headset seems to tend to have predominating bass and often treble too. Does the tactic 3D wrath fall into this category ? How would you describe the "color" of the sound it produces ?
About bass: how would you describe them ? Are they rough and/or produce saturation easily or are they tight and prodiving a good variety ? (no "boom boom")
About medium, which is where voice takes place, does it produce a clear and pleasant sound ?
And treble, are they soft enough to not hurt your ears over long use (several hours, which is typical of a gaming session for someone who plays a lot)

- about confort:

I have read a user review talking about lack of confort when wearing this headset. The guy said it was constricting his head too hard, and thus was becoming unconfortable past 30min to an hour. Even by stretching the headset over the night it did not become more confortable he said. Did you felt the same when you have tried your pre-production model ?

Also, looking at the pictures of it, I fear the space inside the cushions is too narrow to allow ears not to be compressed at some point(s) by those cushions. What is your opinion on this ?

- about the microphone:

How have you found the mic quality ? (I plan to use it with mumble / teamspeak)

- and finally, if you could give a word about the accuracy of the positionning in games, I will take that info too ! :p (though it is not my main interested in this headset. I am more worried about a good audio quality, a good mic quality, and a stable wireless communication. And for the later I have seen a test on youtube showing the range you could use it from the receiver and it was very satisfying. As you can see the guy can go outside his house and still receive sound without any crack nor sound shutoff).

I hope you can help me so I can decide whether or not I should buy this headset. It costs some money so I am very embarrassed I have to take a decision without knowing very much about this product. And unfortunatelly it is one of the few wireless headset with mic that is designed to work on PC (I will use it exclusively on PC. And 100% with games, so I don't really care if it was not suitable for listening to music or watching movies). There are many wireless HS with mic but all are designed to work on console and at best, if it works on PC you only have audio, mic won't work (often designed to work on Xbox Live). The other option I have found in the same price range is the logitech G930, but reading reviews it has not a very good sound (bass will saturate easily and treble are too strong and hurts).

Thank you by advance if you can give me some details on the above aspects. I know you have said you are planning to make a full review on this headset, but I would really appreciate if you could give me a few infos on the aspects I am worried about, as I have very little time left to decide whether I purchase this headset or not.

Hi there,

I'm the above poster (willi). I've had to create this other account as my first attempt to register to this forum resulted in a ban due to spam, but everything is ok now (thanks adrian :) )

So I have digged a bit more about this headset. As it looks very similar to the omega headset I was wondering if it was possibly sharing the same components and creative confirmed that.
Here is the answer I received from Ryan Schlieper from creative (Product Marketing Manager - Audio):

Hey there...

The Tactic3D Wrath does indeed share the same componentry of the Omega and are built on the same chassis.
The major difference lies in that the OMega headset has a different transmitter / receiver that allows for connection to an Xbox360 or PS3 (or any analog source).
The Wrath is only compatible with PC / Mac.
The performance of the two headsets will be nearly identical (awesome gaming audio!).

Best regards,

So whoever would wonder about sound quality (and color) of this headset could just read the user feedbacks and reviews about the Omega :)

I have spend some time reading a lot of those comments and they always mention a good/very good audio quality. Though, as the G930, the sound color is described as predominating bass and treble (which is apparently what most american audiophiles prefer).

So now G930 is back in my "possible purchase list". rjkoneill, would you have tested the G930 ? It would be very helpful to me if you could compare the G930 and the Wrath (or anyone who would have been able to compare both. Even if it was with the omega, as the wrath should sound exactly the same).

I am personnaly hesitating a lot between both.

Pros of the G930:
- the mic that cuts off when you pull it up (the wrath doesn't have this feature unfortunately :( )

- the analog wheel to set the volume. In my opinion, this is far better than buttons, for many reasons:
* I'm sure analog wheel lets you set volume with more precision than buttons (buttons means steps, so if steps are too wide...)
* Analog wheel will undoubtely lets you set the desired volume faster (again, with a digital system you will have steps)
* Analog wheel is with no doubt more quiet, whereas buttons will certainly make noise that may be heard by the mic

- the ear cups seems wider than those on the wrath/omega (including deepness !)

Pros of the Wrath:

- I can get it cheaper (120€ incl. shipping for the Wrath, 134€ incl. shipping for the G930)

- 50mm speakers vs 40mm for the G930. This *may* allow deeper and tighter bass for the wrath. Thus this is not automatic (excursion length can compensate the lower diameter. Though, I doubt this would be the case here, with that smaller speakers and the 10mm diameter difference. It means 50mm speaker has +56% surface than a 40mm speaker !). Also, higher diameter nowhere means better sound.

Beside this, other aspects seem on par:

- both seems to have about 15m wireless range (though the G930 *may* have a bit higher range. I know it has 2 antennas, but idk for the wrath. PCmag have reviewed both the G930 and the Omega and found the G930 has better range. But the wrath doesn't use the same transmitter, so maybe the wireless electronic preformance differs from the omega. And I am not sure how accurate pcmag reviews are. I found it strange they say both the g930 and the omega lack bass when most review and user feedback say the opposite)

- both seems to have 8-10h battery autonomy

- both seems to have a good mic (good audio quality and good noise cancelling. Btw, look at this very nice mic comparison if you want to get an idea of the G930 mic audio quality. Very professional test, I found it to be very interesting :))

And finally another question remains, that could make the balance lean to one or the other headset: which of the THX TruStudio Pro (wrath) and Dolby Headphone / Dolby Pro Logic II (g930) provides better surround emulation ? Which one will give you the more precise positionning in games ?

Atm I have a small preference for the wrath (because of the 50mm speakers, and the positive user feedbacks I have read on the omega sound quality). But I really regret the wrath does not have the mic cut-off feature when you pull it up, and I infinitely prefer the analog wheel to set the volume over the digital buttons system on the wrath.

Tricky decision. But I have to decide now so I can order tomorrow to be sure to get it for christmas. Any input that would help making a decision would be greatly appreciated :D

this is about right, the wrath sample was identical to the omega when creative showed them to us

I am personnaly hesitating a lot between both.

the g930 availability is very poor. I have not been able to buy any European stock for months.

the g930 is a lot heavier than the wrath. I found the wrath comfortable and the foam in the earcups softer than that of the logitech set.

Beside this, other aspects seem on par:

they are both evenly matched, that is for certain. I like them both a lot, I found the Wrath easier to use and the features were very nice.

creative are sending me a retail sample to review soon but this will not be until after Christmas now.

Tricky decision. But I have to decide now so I can order tomorrow to be sure to get it for christmas. Any input that would help making a decision would be greatly appreciated :D

I would personally go for the Wrath if you need it before christmas.
1. because you will be paying over the odds for the g930 if you even manage to find it in stock anywhere
2. because the wrath is cheaper and ready to ship.

Sure. And sorry for that. I wouldn't have done that if I wasn't pressed by time.

Interesting. I was looking for that info and only have found g930 weight (327g without usb cable attached, 354g with usb cable).

Is it possible for you to just give a few words to describe the sound ? (color and quality for bass/med/treble)

What fears me is reviews of past headsets from creative. They are all said to provide poor quality sound. Now it really seems creative is doing efforts to make their come back on the market with their recent products, especially concerning gaming headsets.

Though, it is frightening to buy a 120€ headset when you lack informations about the main caracteristic of it (audio it produces). Especially when you are someone who always make loads of investigations prior to any purchase to be sure not to be disappointed. Now I admit, a headset or any audio device should never be bought without testing it by yourself as audio quality is a very subjective area.

Indeed, that's what I've first seen when I was checking its price a few day ago. But since yesterday the G930 is available in my country at... hmmm... a well known online store. It is flaged as "in stock", though there is a note the "delivery *could* take 2 more days".

the audio quality of the wrath is what surprised me, punchy bass and a smooth sounding treble when listening to music.

a movie demo and gaming demo showed that the different software EQ settings for the wrath allow for a little more customisation.

the headsets are certainly on par sound wise, and both are so good, it is difficult to suggest an alternative to either for consumers looking for a wireless gaming set.

Thank you :)

I'm going to give this wrath headset a chance and will post a feedback on it here after I have tested it (I will wait you have posted your own review).
