NVIDIA is set to launch mainstream 8600GTS (G84-400) and 8600GT (G84-300) as well as 8500GT (G86-300) on 17th of April. GeForce 8600GTS and 8600GT will have 256MB GDDR3 memories onboard and sports 128-bit memory interface but no HDMI yet. GeForce 8600GTS is meant to replace 7950GT and 7900GS while 8600GT to replace 7600GT and 8500GT to replace 7600GS.

8600GTS will be clocked at 700MHz core / 2GHz memory and comes with dual D-DVI, HDTV, HDCP but requires external power. 8600GTS will be priced between US$199-$249. Another mainstream model, the 8600GT will be clocked at 600MHz core / 1.4GHz memory and has 2 variants; one with HDCP (G84-300) and the other without (G84-305). This model doesn't requires an external power. 8600GT will be priced between US$149-$169.

The last model meant for budget segment is actually a G84 core but downgraded to meet the value segment pricing structure. The 8500GT will be clocked at 450MHz core / 800MHz 256MB DDR2 memory and comes in 2 variants; one with HDCP (G86-300) and the other without HDCP (G86-305). 8500GT will be priced between US$79 to US$99. Towards end of April, we can expect NVIDIA to release GeForce 8300GS for the budget market to replace 7300 series.

The NVIDIA 80nm G84 and G86 line-up will meet head on with ATi's DX10 65nm offerings where mainstream RV630 is slated to arrive in May and value RV610 is slated to arrive earlier in April.

128bit memory interface on the 8600GTS? That's kinda disappointing, although I suppose with those clock speeds it had to be crippled somehow.

That 320meg 8800GTS is looking more and more appealing.

The 8800gts 320 is already cheap and the card is a winner. I guess the green guys just fill in the various market sectors with mix and match with this.

Stuff the 8600, I wanna know the 8900 launch date :D

Ooo interesting - from the same site:

w0mbat in our forums has found the following information in the latest Forceware drivers for Vista :

NVIDIA_G80.DEV_0191.1 = "NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX"
NVIDIA_G80.DEV_0193.1 = "NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS"
NVIDIA_G80.DEV_0194.1 = "NVIDIA GeForce 8800 Ultra"
NVIDIA_G80.DEV_019E.1 = "NVIDIA Quadro FX 4600"
NVIDIA_G84.DEV_0400.1 = "NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GTS"
NVIDIA_G84.DEV_0402.1 = "NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT"
NVIDIA_G86.DEV_0421.1 = "NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT"
NVIDIA_G86.DEV_0422.1 = "NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS"
NVIDIA_G86.DEV_0423.1 = "NVIDIA GeForce 8300 GS"

It seems that NVIDIA is planning for a higher clocked GeForce 8800 Ultra and a cheaper GeForce 8400GS card.

There isnt going to be 8900's now, they are going straight to G90 according to reports.

Another kick in the nads for ATi coming up with these 8600's, there cards are already not worth buying, these will probs come into the £100-£150 range, so its bye, bye your £111 x1950pro as well. :D

that articles wrong for a starter, as AMD have already said they have put back their R600 to June, which will be 8 months behind the 8800, jesus :eek: , and their mid range cards to go against Nvidia's 8600's etc... are gona be 2 months behind those, OUCH :D

Hang on, what?! Really?

So what am I waiting for? I've got £300 and a little more coming my way, waiting for an 8900... now I dunno what to do :confused: Is there anything above the 8800s' coming out any time soonish?

Yeah, thread on it here , no 8900's now apparently.

Interesting. I wonder if I'd see much improvement going from a 6800GT to a 8600GT. Hopefully they've done more than just switch two digits around :p

I'm not planning on spending more than £100, so an 8800GTS is right out ;)

Till June? where was that written! I heard it was only like 3 weeks from the late March release meaning April release!

Plus they are only supposed to be 256mb cards, interesting that, everyone keeps banging on saying that the GTS with only 320mb is no good for Dx10, so why are they bothering to release 256mb Dx10 cards, should have just made em Dx9 cards if thats the case as Dx10 on them is wasted, its no good at all on em if Dx10 cant run on 256mb. :)

Here , 2nd quarter is end of June, all i can say is these cards better be good, be an absolute shambles if they come out and are only a couple of frames faster in some things than the GTX, wont be very good at all for being 8 months behind, be an absolute joke that. :D

I refer you to what you have been saying about the 8800 series and DX10 being old hat ........ ;)

The current range of cards is about DX9 not DX10 so I personally think its a wise move because in most instances 256MB is fine for the majority of games. This is all designed to kick ATI where it hurts. Nvidia are certainly going for the JUGULARY !

Q2 is anywhere from april 1st to June 30th.

regardless, i went for the 640mb GTS OC which at £265 is a bargain. in 12 months we'll do this dance again anyway so i'll see whats on offer then, same as everyone does every year.

Ahh well its still a late show from em, gota be something special, we'll see if they can pull it off. :)

Lots of rumour hill/talk suggesting ATI just delayed it to work on the speed since there not quite on the 8800GTX levels yet.....

It would be terrible to wait another month or 2 and then find out its true... worser still to wait another 2-3 months!

I heard they were delaying so they can either release the full range, or their physics as well, time will tell i suppose, but agreed it would be terrible that if it cant even beat G80.

Yeah heard that too, perhaps it would be much better to throw 6+ graphic cards aimed at everyones Wallet size all at once, something Nvidia still hasnt been able to do 6 months later...

smart money is on NVidia at the moment, ATi are missing this direct x 10 boom! people are just buying just cos! Us edjucated people buy them for the best performance tho! :)
