Hello,

I just saw some interesting videos on youtube about the following adapters:

1. XFPS Ratup
2. Frag FX
3. PS3Predator

I read some opinions about the first two ones in other forums and even in Amazon. Some of them are good some bad. But in the most case people were not that satisfied with them. But I couldn't find out anything about the ps3predator. Has anyone bought the adapter or can tell me if it's working better than the others?
Here is the homepage of them: http://www.ps3predator.6x.to

Thanks in advance
ivan

Im firmly in the camp of 'if you need a m+k/b then a console is not for you'. Seriously why would you need it? I can understand if RTS's became popular but they aint?

Hi Guys,

I got a XFPS and and its crap then i went and got a PS3Predator and its close to pc gaming if you set it up tidy, there's so many configs for the games but when you get used to it its not bad

Let me know if you need any more help

That means you own a ps3predator right?

May I ask where you got it from? Cause I think about buying one.

Got a Predator myself. The guys in Berlin that make them sell them for €99 + €7 del. http://www.ps3predator.gaming.lc/

It responds to inputs twice as fast as the alternatives you listed which frequently get accused of being laggy. You can grab the XIM software from their Download section to have a look at it. Set up profiles for each game and you're ready although takes a bit to remember the keys you set up!

Cheap they aren't then but it performs even better than I expected and I can now play without grinding my teeth in frustration (as far as controls go at any rate). Played BF:Bad Company on hard and really enjoyed it. Only FPS on PS3 I have as it happens. I've only been online for a couple of short sessions with BF:Bad Company. My record was less than wonderful but I'm not much of a hardcore player like the kids that will thrash me with gamepads (or were they gamepads?:D ) . Just want to play the odd exclusive or with two or three lads from work.

If you search around you'll see that you can build your own 'XIM 360 for PS3' for maybe half the price. Some soldering/wiring required.

Looks like Lynx24 might do you a deal though.

So moving, lining up and keeping a weapon trained on a target is far easier. Those are the main advantages. That's where I can see why the pad players get uppity. Then again, how do they know they haven't been slaughtering the handful of mouse players on COD4 etc for months? Good players will be at the top regardless of input device I reckon. A Predator can improve your game but there are so few of them sold that it's hardly a concern to padders. Since I first noticed them in November they've had 2 batches of 8 that sold slowly and another batch of 20 in the last month of which 6 have been sold. Just the desperate few that buy them perhaps! Worth it if you have the money and the exchange rate is creeping up a little too.

looks like its the PS3Predator & XIM 360 for me.

I'm surprised that mainstream 3rd party vendors have not released any like these.

half of me things its verging on cheating by using a kb/mouse setup when your opponents are on pads, but then again if this was the case the many people using fightsticks in SFIV would be in the same camp (which... they're not) so its a mixed bag really...

my personal opinion with FPS is that the only people that don't like the control system are the people that haven't given it a real chance... i hated the pad at first but since COD4 i'm more than happy to get most games on PS3 as opposed to PC :)

I'm crap using either control method.

Keyboard and mouse has no place in console gaming if you ask me though. I have my console so I don't have to sit at a desk to play games.

I wouldn't say they're at all comparable tbh, i'm still better with a pad in street fighter but play with a stick as it's more fun despite my inability to use it. A keyboard and mouse is just better suited for the task in every way and most people just want them as it makes the game easier, using a mouse + kb online will give a far, far greater advantage than using a fightstick in a beat em up.

I really do hope that people buying these adapters aren't planning to use them online, it is basically cheating.

I have been giving it a chance since the PS2 & i prefer KB & Mouse. :)

Getting used to it is one thing but it will never be as fast & accurate as a mouse & KB, I can turn to any degrees instantly, with a joy pad your max turning speed is determined totally by the limits of the sensitivity setting of any given game ..ect & try drawing a nice curve or circle with with a joypad.

A joypad is less intuitive as to go from a fast turn to a gradually slower one requires the user to start to move the stick in the opposite direction & i don't mean left of central, your still turning right but your sticks physical movement is not, with a mouse you just slow down the mouse.

Tools for each job.

Skill at playing should be down to tactics & not because one has a problem adapting to a input device.
People should have the choice of using the one that suits them best from what is available that does not included automation like Autofire hardware when in multiplay.
I will accept scripts & macros for weapons selection depending on the game like UT & Quake games.

If someone is doing better because of the input device if its available to bought buy others then its fair because its your choice if you use it or not.

Example: I don't consider people who do better using a driving wheel cheats because i choose to use a pad when i can get a wheel my self if i choose to, if some people prefer to use the pad regardless its not my fault.
I do have a G25.

Mouse and keyboard is faster than a pad, ask anyone that and they'll agree. If developers wanted people using mouse and keyboard they would allow it as the PS3 does support it, but they don't. They've deliberately left out mouse and keyboard support as it gives a massive advantage in online play, to keep things standard levels the playing field. The only example where mouse and keyboard is allowed online is UT3, but guess what? They filtered servers so pad players would have to be stuck playing a losing battle against mouse and keyboard users.

Joysticks and steering wheels do not give anywhere near as big an advantage as mouse and keyboard in their respective genres, hence why developers give native support for them.

Consoles are meant to please the majority but they limit the input device.
There is a reason why the WII is doing so well in spite of being less advanced in all other areas.
On the PC the input device is of your choosing.

Yes, they limit it to level the playing field so everyone can have a care free, fun experience without having to worry about what mouse they use or what macros are programmed into their keyboard. Standardising the control scheme means that everyone is even and therefore simplifies the process, that is until people start bypassing those restrictions by buying third party adapters...

The Wii is popular because it's tapped the casual market, i see nothing in it that involves non standardised controllers because they too use them.

thinking about it, i totally agree with the concept that if it works out of the box its fine...

fightsticks and wheels are much more about enhancing the experience, they may offer a small advantage but its nothing compared the kb/m vs control pad gap.

the moment you have to start using third party adapters and moving away from the way the developers intended games to be played i do think that is stepping over the mark personally.

Its the WIImote controller that has tapped the market the WII shares 80% of its internals with a GameCube.
