PS3 Adapters - Which one???

Its the controller that has tapped the market the WII is shears 80% of its internals with a GameCube.

I know that, but what's your point? It uses standardised controllers, it does not allow mouse + keyboard or any other type of controller for that matter (excluding the gamecube controller which is still a pad). It's even more standardised than the PS3! Surely that goes some way towards my argument that people want standardised controllers on their system, not people playing with all sorts of adapters and mouse + kb combinations.

thinking about it, i totally agree with the concept that if it works out of the box its fine...

fightsticks and wheels are much more about enhancing the experience, they may offer a small advantage but its nothing compared the kb/m vs control pad gap.

the moment you have to start using third party adapters and moving away from the way the developers intended games to be played i do think that is stepping over the mark personally.

Developers do not get to pick the control methods, the console makers do. Now MS and Sony have made sticks work in games, what is to stop me sticking my arcade stick into non beat em up games and "abusing" the autofire button (lame example but my mind is blank for better ones at the moment!!)

Sticks and Wheels give you benefits as well. People buy them for the advantage it gives them (be it extra buttons, easier move execution, easier gear changes, whatever).

Again i don't think you can argue the inherent benefits of using a mouse and keyboard in a first person shooter are in any way comparable to fightsticks and wheels.

Also, Sony has allowed mouse + kb to work on a console but developers disable it, they don't disable fightsticks as playing a FPS with one would be impossible. The very fact they disable it when it is supported must surely show that it isn't and intended control method by the developers?

Yeah, but he is not using a mouse and keyboard, the adaptor is still passing standardised controls to the console. I do not think the improvement would be as dramatic as people say (I have not used one personally and I think it is one of those things I need to use to see if it really is a game changer).

The majority of people who spend upwards of £50 on peripherals for consoles do it for some advantage imo. For some reason they always say, yeah I do it for fun but ultimately the most fun is to use the controller everyone else is using (i.e. pad for the level playing field you described). To use other wise is personal preference or to seek an advantage (The latter being most people's reason imo)

This thread is a good example of what really separates who favour each platform.

PC is freedom & choice without the fear of differences in experiences & cost .

Console have comfort in that everyone has pretty much the same as you & no more even if they wanted to.

All this depends on the individual of course.

Because what if the standard was KB & mouse with consoles & the joypad was the need to have adaptors.
I mean as mentioned consoles are not intended to be used with Joysticks they are all nearly 3rd party devices if only a few people bought them there would be moaning, everything has to start at some point & there is always resistance at first.

Another good point that have a heavy influence in why both are not standard is that you need you only need your hands with a joypad, Wii being the exception.

With KB & mouse you need a surface.

Just imagine upto 4 people playing on a sofa with a KB/KP & mouse each.

This has always bugged me playing FPS on consoles, but the adapters are far too expensive and some seem to do a poor job so im still not willing to shell out for one.

I just stick with PC for FPS but I have missed out on playing some of the exclusives for the PS3 (resistance 2 is sitting on my shelf having hardly been touched) and to be honest Im not going to buy any FPS's for PS3 anymore as I know that it will just annoy me ands a waste of money.

Some people are going to say that you have to give the controls a chance etc. but Im not willing to put in the time for what I see an an inferior control method so I just play FPS on PC only now. Like someone has said it is impossible doing some moves on the ps3 controller 180 turn flicks being one of those.

Dont get me wrong the controller is great for the PS3 for certain types of games, and its nice sometimes just chilling out without having to sit infront of a keyboard or mouse, but it would also be nice to have that choice.

Like I said its actually going to stop me from buying FPS for consoles and surely Im not the only one who feels that way.
