MY MINI REVIEW OF GTX 680

Hi there

OK very little time, so it is literally just Heaven results:-

Heaven 2.5 at 1680x1050 4x/4x

Heaven 2.5 at 1920x1080 4x/4x

Heaven 2.5 at 2560x1600 4x/4x

System Spec:-
Intel 3960X @ 4.80GHz
Samsung 1600MHz @ 2400MHz
NVIDIA GTX 680 @ 1201MHz Core / 2402MHz Shader / 7200MHz Memory
Drivers - Ones on the CD!

To overclock I used MSI afterburner:-
Core voltage +100mv
Core speed +150 (This with core boost results in 1196-1201MHz)
Memory speed +600 (Results in 7200MHz)

This should hopefully give you some insight into overclocking potential and raw performance.

I believe with EVGA prevision tool X higher speeds will be possible along with higher voltages to get such speeds.

If you look at my original 7970 OC results on original drivers, the new NV card is only marginally slower in Heaven.

ATI 7970 does seem to have the slight edge when both cards are overclocked, but the NVIDIA card seems to be better optimised in games.

Sound wise the 680 is the quietest card I've tested yet and it never goes beyond 80c under load and generally sits around 60c under load.

A very impressive card and it is selling like hot cakes.

Really impressive card, but should really offer GTX580 plus >60% performance to be called a GTX680. However, I do think this is the biggest ever performance leap offered by a next gen mainstream part, over that or the former top end part (GTX580). Lots of nice extra features too.

Great card, wrong name, funny price.

2 months of saving and I can have one of these. While both my games (WoW though thats rare and Eve Online a lit) run fine under my processors CPU it seems silly to have a high end PC and no graphics card lol

If its as quiet as I am hearing I will get one, atm my PC is almost silent, dont wanna spoil it.

Can't wait for mine to come tomorrow. Read about 5 reviews and there's no mistake this is the best single GPU card out at the moment! So what's the best way to install one of these? Uninstall CCC and CAP profiles. Use driver sweeper to get rid of all traces of the ATI drivers. Then in device manager uninstall both 5850s.

Turn PC off install GTX680 and then install drivers. Is this the best way?

Don't use driversweeper, just uninstall the cards correctly.
Driver cleaning tools... *shudder*
They haven't been needed since the days of XP.

7900gtx > 8800gtx?
What sort of performance increase did we get across the board from 6970 > 7970?

Not without clock speeds it doesn't. It just shows what an overclocked 680 can do to a stock speed 7970.

But you just can't tell some people. Not only that, but what if AMD have something waiting in the wings? it's not even like there's nothing out there, we were told about Tenerife bloody ages ago.
