Its had its time "Classic" and "Next gen" dont go together everyone knows that the PS3s pad was a afterthought they would have used the batman style pad had it not got such a slating

So what do they do instead? badly copy Nintendos idear of a motion pad

i am sorry but sonys effort on the PS3s pad is laughable...........

Love it how they took rumble out as apparently you can't have both tilt sensor and rumble, only for a third party to announce that they would be bringing one out with both.

How would it work, since assumedly there'd be no rumble support in the games?

Love how wrong you are!

Actually look into it and you'll find it 'cause they don't have the rights to use the rumble mechanism they had in the PS2 due to a patent.

The 360's pad is more or less the same as the last-gen Xbox S-controller as well - you don't have to change things just for the sake of it. (In my opinion, the PS2 controller could have done with updating to be more like the Xbox controller, but speaking as a general principle.)

Something they could have easily avoided if they hadn't tried to avoid paying the royalties on it, or paid when they had the chance ;)

Personally whilst I'm not a great fan of rumble technology (a lot of the time it's just annoying*), I love the way Sony are trying not to mention in their press releases/blurb the real reason they are no longer using rumble tech in the new pads (I'll probably die of laughter if it turns out the Wii has rumble it's controllers at some point).

*But when the devs get it right (as opposed to just turning it on as it's there), it does work well.

I know they didn't have the rights to the rumble mechanism they used in the PS2 ones. However they did try to create a new one and said it could not be done as it would interfere with the tilt sensor. Then the company (I wanna say Immersion, not sure) who had the rights to the technology, showed their third party PS3 controller which had both.
