Went to see a preview screening of this last night in Milton Keynes. I personally have been feverishly waiting for this film to be released. Originally like most, i thought it was a "Facebook" movie and by all accounts might have been pap.

Boy howdy was I wrong.

What with David Fincher and Aaron Sorkin at the wheel plus Jesse Eisenberg, this is quite literally a stunningly absorbing film.

My expectations were very high and they were all surpassed. Aaron Sorkin's writing is sharp and pithy, its a rapid quick fire script but at no point feels rushed. The direction is understated but still retains many of the hallmarks I would accociate with a David Fincher movie.

All the central perfomances are impressive, particularly Jesse Eisenberg and Andrew Garfield. Justin Timberlake turns in a memorable performance as Napster founder Sean Parker as well.

Whilst there is much contention over the actual truth behind this version of events surrounding the birth and eventual development of the facebook, it is a fascinating and gripping watch.

Sorkin has said as much that the book the script is based upon may be more rooted in dramatising the original events, but to his credit he has made no excuses for that. The film is engrossing from the first beat to the last.

I am echoing many critics when I state this but, it may well be the best film I have seen this year.

A mention to the soundtrack as well scored by Trent Reznor, pure quality.

Massive recommendation from me.

I want to see this too but i don't know how many of my friends would echo the sentiment.

Might "lie" to the girls and say its about facebook, and to the boys, it's from the guy who did Se7en.

Haha, to be honest, whilst obviously the cornerstone of the film is Facebook, the actual story is more centralised around the eventual legal action Zuckerberg sustained from his ol' pal Saverin and the the Winkelvass (spelling?) brothers.

Facebook, as in the actual site, is sparingly used during the film, it's more about Zuckerberg and his motivations and the tangled web that unravelled as the facebook took shape.

It's great.

It's actually not about Zuckerberg at all as the events and characters as so different from those that actually took place it is basically a work of fiction using the names of some real people. Not saying it's a bad film, but anyone who believes what they see has been badly hood winked.

Would you mind providing a link to the real story, or perhaps the title of a book? Thanks.

I've only watched the trailers so far and it comes across as dreadful, dreadful, old Hollywood tosh. It might have been an interesting topic for a documentary but the clips I've seen just seem like when the "Comic Strip" made the Hollywood version of the miners' strike.

So far from this thread i have come to the conclusion that nobody thinks the film is based on truth. Does anyone have any evidence towards this?

What genre is the film? Is it comedy? Documentary? Horror? :P

As I mentioned in the original post, this is a dramatised version of events, stemmed from Mezrich's book and Sorkin's screenplay.

If you want stark facts, then by all means research it all yourself. If you want to watch a fantastic film based upon the scant facts available surrounding the development of facebook, then dive in.

I am no saying this is the gospel at all, I am saying this is a very good film.

Interesting.

Well, if you judge all films on their trailers, I'll put it out there and say you have missed a great deal of brilliant films.

Wasn't at all interested in this film until I found out David Fincher was directing.

Might give it a try when it comes out on dvd or something.

I just watched the trailer and thought it looked quite good. Even better is I found Scala & Kolacny Brothers. They are amazing! Love the version of Creep on the trailer.

Saw this a couple of weeks back in the US. Was fantastic, the writing was brilliant. Way beyond my expectations, I basically heard nothing about it 'till I saw a poster in the theatre and thought "I'll watch that one".
