Got my Seagate 2TB

The Seagate is faster in everything except burst rate. Not sure if that's good or bad. Also of note, there isn't much difference between my seagate speeds and those of eddyr posted in the mini review thread who has the 3 platter version. His: http://postimage.org/image/64rz34qfv/full/ eddyr, are you on sata 2 or 3?

Yep im on sata 2 also. In fact I just traced the sata cable and its in the marvel controller (its a real mess round back) set to sata 2 limit, so I'm going to test it again in one of the intel ones, il post a screenshot if its any diff.

eddyr., I just found something out. "One thing worth noting - HDTune free only tests the first 1TB of a drive, so the access times appear lower than they actually are. (Notice the yellow dots only test the first half of the drive.)"

Can you retest using the free trial of HD Tune Pro, and not HD Tune.

Here's my HD Tune Pro benchmark (Seagate to the right, Caviar Black 1TB to the left). The yellow dots now fill across the whole box. The burst rate is much higher but the access time is slower. Also, cpu usage is higher with this version of HD Tune.

Done. HDtune Pro testing the whole drive shows that as I had it setup before (on the same marvel port) wasnt giving the full story, so as you say the HD tune free version I was using before was affecting the result.
Moved it to the intel sata 2 port and HDtune Pro shows better results than than the marvel port accross the board. Anywho the benches...

Middle & right- Intel sata 2 HD tune pro

Taking the relevant mid and right 2 benches, it's not much slower than your 2 platter.
edit: infact my burst rate is a bit better.

Thanks for doing that eddy. Yep, very interesting. So really, it seems it makes hardly any difference which version someone gets. Bit disappointing in some respects, doesn't say much for the newer single platter technology.

Well they are both the same density platters. For the cost I bought it Im quite happy considering WD 1TB platter reds cost more and deliver lower perf due to their slower rpm. Shame about the warrenty diff tho.
