I am swaying towards the Z5500's as they seem to be of a much better build quality but are they a better set of speakers?

Will be using for Games and Music with a X-Fi Fatal1ty PRO.

Do the Z5500's mount well on walls with the supplied brackets? Ive read they cannot be tilted when wall mounted?

Also, how much cable is given for the sats?

Many Thanks.

Gimp.

Hi,

No many people can really comment on which is better unless they've had both but I can highly recommend the Logitech Z-5500's. I've had my set for over a year now and they're bloody awesome!

They do mount well on walls and they can also be turned around and they turn 180 degrees on the brackets.

The cables are pretty long. A few metres per speaker.

my gigaworks are awesome, I have to turn the base off though cos its so loud :( even then its really bassy!

I got mine for a bargain though - £150 second hand (they were in perfect condition - no scratches etc) and the guy even included the creative dts decoder which is worth 150 odd on its own! this was about 2 years ago now. Still think its a great system though. they are a lot louder than what you'd initially think. I got a creative xfi card too which helps it all. Im not sure if a 7.1 card is needed to get full use of the gigaworks. I recommend it though.

they are old now and there is supposed to be new range due around Xmas time (no idea where they are).

Anything to back this up?

I swaying towards a 7.1 setup BUT the Z5500 are technically superior so if a refresh of the Gigaworks is on the cards, that may sway me.

Nothing wrong with my gigaworks G500 (5.1) - except maybe too much bass - got it right down on the control thing and had to turn it down a bit in the X-Fi settings as it was still really bassy. There's not a million different ways to connect them though, Wish I had one of those DTS decoder things, but there's no way I'm paying ebay prices for it - If only they hadn't stopped making them.

Buy the Z-5500s you wont be disappointed :-D i got mine last week and love em! They are so pwerful compared to my old 5.1 100Watts RMS dell speakers.
I thought about the Creative 7.1s - but what uses 7.1 NOTHING really and you got the pain of 2 extra speakers also the build quality is a lot better than creative and also you got the really cool control centre and sooo many ways to connetc your Z-5500s

Some claim the AMP dies on the Gigaworks, they are old now and there is supposed to be new range due around Xmas time (no idea where they are).

I hope they got a 10" sub or something thats good and beats the Z5500's and also at an affordable price possible £200.

I wanted the 7.1 Giga's I have the basic 7.1 (sound crap esp bass more of thud)

But I read all reviews and music is my Primary goal so I never bought them and age issue, if indeed new ones are due which Im sure will happen as the current 2x 5.1 kits are newer than the original Giga's, just demand for 7.1 is less.

I just want a change from my Z5500's, would be good if there was another system with more bass and better bass.

I'll contact Creative and see what they say.. likely get fobbed off but you never know.

I have a large ish room so would prefer 7.1 to fill it.

Not sure how the GigaWorks mount on walls but the Z-5500's speakers all come with a stand that can turn around 180º and be used as wall brackets.

Its a shame you cant tilt them to face down though, when you wall mount them you can litrally only have them 1 way.

I planned on wall mounting but I move my room around too much so it would be abit annoying if I wall mounted them.

I used to be like that, but since I mounted my speakers I haven't done the old "I've got exams so I'll tidy/re-arrange my room" thing (I've been playing Crysis instead!) But there's just no other way to get my surround speakers in the right place, and my Gigaworks G500 Centre speaker's too big to fit under my VX2025wm anyway :(

Coming from an owner of the older Z-680s...how can you possibly want MORE bass?! I already have mine turned down to about 2 on the scale and I have it sat on a towel to stop it disrupting the TV downstairs :p
