Hi

I;m trying to install Linux Mint 8 - CD boots - but then I get

'Trying to install Linux - but getting '"Disk error 20, AX=4290, drive EF'

What can it be?

i've already burnt the image again at a slow speed and on pukka CDs - But both CDs are giving me the same error?

Did you check the image with the available MD5 checksum? A quick search on Google seems to indicate that it's an issue with your installation media. Either a corrupt image file, or a dodgy CD. You can find the MD5 on the download page (I'm going to assume that you have downloaded the standard 32-bit edition) http://www.linuxmint.com/edition.php?id=44

In order to check (I'm making another assumption that you're on a Linux machine) change to the directory that the image is in and run the following:

md5sum LinuxMint-8.iso

Obviously, if you downloaded a different version of Mint, the image file name will be different and so will the MD5 (which can be found on the relevant image's download page). In the case of the 32-bit edition, the above command should yield the following output:

06fc2f27f8352a2bac5516b86c020755

If it differs, I would download the image again and check before burning. Hope that helps.

Thanks guys - I managed to sort this.

Downloaded the iso again and then burnt it at x2 speed on a good quality (Verbatim CD-R) and also ran a 'verify'

Then it booted and installed ok.
