Hi there

Right if GTX 480 and GTX 560Ti were both £200 which one would be faster and which would you buy?

I take it once you overclock the GTX 480 the 560Ti and 570 have no chance of keeping up?
GTX560 no, but if you are talking GTX570 vs GTX480 overclock, I think the luck on getting a decent core or not plays a bigger part in it.

Standard GTX560 is around as fast as 5870, but with overclock to 1000MHz+, it would be around as fast as GTX470 overclocked to 830~850MHz. Whereas the GTX480 at stock 700MHz is around the same speed as GTX470 overclocked to around 800~820MHz, it would still have plenty of overclock headroom...up to 850MHz or above is 'doable'.

GTX480 has the well-known 'noise and heat issue', but apparently not as bad for people with a decent air-flow case than some crappy ones.

As for the GTX560 along with the rest of the system, people can get away with using a decent 400-450W PSU, whereas for the GTX480 people would have to be owning a decent 500W PSU at the very least, and ideally a 600W PSU or above.

So do buy GTX480 or not is probably has a lot down to with what case cooling and PSU that people already got, as I doubt people would want to spend the money upping their case (and/or VGA cooler) and PSU, just for the sake of the GTX480. For people that already got a decent enough PSU but is worried about the heat and noise of the GTX480, they 'might' still see it as better value to get a GTX480 for £200 get something like a Zalman VF3000-F (£40). But then again people might just ditch out the extra and get the GTX570 instead, as it already comes with a decent reference cooler, and no need to replace the cooler and void the warranty of the card like the GTX480.

The 480 overclocked is as fast as the 570 overclocked however add plenty of AA and the 480 wins hands down due to its superior memory interface. The 560 is fantastically quick as is the 570 but a 480 at £200? That would be the Card I'd buy.

The 570 can also overclock to almost 580 stock speeds. Just like the 480. The best thing for the 480 is that it has more VRAM which is necessary for things such as higher resolutions and AA. It has been proven that games such as Stalker and Metro can easily eat through 1280MB (570 memory size) at 1920x1200 with AA maxed out.

Fair enough, I always game on 24" or larger screens so 1920x1200 is minimum resolution for me so high-res performance is biggest factor. :)

It is only bound to get worse with games such as Crysis 2 coming soon. I even dare to say that for £200 a 480 would be my pick from all the cards available at the moment.

Shame I have a 6950@70 :D

As others have said, the GTX480 is a fair whack faster. If you're comparing a heavily overclocked 560 against a stock 480 then you might see some slight overlap in some benchmarks, but the extra memory bandwidth will still favour the 480 in most cases - particularly at high resolution. On top of this you have clocking headroom on the 480 - most will do 800-850Mhz very comfortably, which approaches stock 580 performance. Plus 50% extra VRAM.

Unless power draw and noise are a major concern, the 480 would definitely be the card to get for the same money.

lol this just hit me...

Rather than spending £270 to £300 on a GTX570 or GTX480 plus Zalman VF3000-F (which would void the warranty with removing cooler), wouldn't it be better to get the GTX480 at £200, and spend the remaining £70~£100 on a decent gaming headset? (assuming people already got a PSU up to the job) :D

Lol... Very true! Or a set of the S550s.. the noise would cover the din of the 480 nicely :D
