Hi,

I have a 240gb Vertex 3 in my machine, but I am getting some low benchmarks.

I only got 45854 on the PC Mark Vantage HDD suite, whilst reviews show I should be getting around the 70000 mark.

My score puts it within the standard SATA 2 scores?

The highest speeds I got in ATTO Disc Benchmark was 424164 write, and 375434 Read (both on 2048.0 test)

This is from a second run, with even lower scores

Could there be a fault on my disc?
Crystal Info says the disc is bad:

Disc was supplied and installed by OCUK on my machine.

I am using a Gigabyte P67A-UD4-B3 Intel P67 mobo, and drive is pluged into the SATA III port.

I was looking in the BIOS, and saw settings called
PCH SATA Control Mode

This is currently set to IDE
I tried changing to AHCI, but I went into a boot cycle (got to the loading windows screen, but kept rebooting itself before it hit the logon screen?

Would AHCI be required to get the most out of the drive, and any ideas why I can't get it to work in the first place?

AHCI is the recommened setting, your meant to have this set before installing Windows. You've got two choices:

1. See if this lets you change to AHCI
2. Set AHCI in bios and re-install windows

AHCI should provide optimal performance for a SATA drive, so in theory your benchmark should increase once you make the change.

Thanks shine enabling AHCI did it.

My ATTO scores are as expected now:

Also, Crystal is no longer reporting errors:

And I got 62420 on PC Mark Vantage HDD Suite, which whilst not the 70000 scores I've seen, it's certainly a marked increase.

I guess review benchmarks are done on an empty drive that is setup as a secondary drive.

Figures look pretty dam good to me anyway.
