I was orginally going to xfire two 6950's but i've been seeing 6970's at 270 quid now and wondering if it's the same thing as putting two 6950's in. and will I see any sort of major difference for 100 quid with one 6970 and 6950 rather than 2 6950's.

Depends if you have the 1GB version or the 2GB version. The 1GB will slowly begin to struggle with AA (Anti-Aliasing) at higher resolutions such as 3 monitors but if you have the 2GB then there shouldnt be a problem.

I'm running two xfire (2gb versions) 6950's with a Be Quiet! Dark Power Pro 650W.

Tried the same setup with a spare Coolermaster 650w, & the xfire 6950's will not work.

A lot depends on the quality of the psu your using.

If your using a cheap generic psu, then treat your self to a good 750w-800w psu from antec, corsair, etc, the extra wattage gives you a bit of headroom.

its a good quality corsair tx 650w. :D and with the 2gb card issue I'm waiting on my 1gb his 6950 to come back on RMA depending on that whether they will refund, replace, or repair the card :D

I would use the extra £100 on a new psu and get another 6950(toxic), or sell your 1Gb 6950 when you get it back for £130 and with your £100 that's burning a hole in your pocket get another 6950 toxic as there's a good chance they unlock.

I'm running a 6970 and 6950 setup and had to upgrade my Corsair TX650 to run them as I ran up Furmark on first boot and it crashed, so instantly turned it off and upgraded!

Just bought another 6970 on the weekend for Trifire, can't wait!

To be fair, if you're investing that much it's silly to not get a bigger PSU - if it goes pop and takes something along with it you're not going to be happy :)

It shows nothing, each PSU is different and most TX650's are in reality around 700W but it's all dependant on the rail voltages. Suck it and see, but I know for sure it will crash on Furmark; general gaming will most likely be fine, I just didn't like knowing it wasn't really up to the job 24/7.

I'm not going to run Furmark there's really no point, My TX650 will be more than enough power to power my system. and btw Who would change my PSU and replug it all anyway? I don't know anyone who can do it and I don't trust myself to do it either.
