Think my 670GTX just died....

I just saw you tried other drivers, did you do a driver sweep to get rid of all the old junk from 320.18?

i did :)

This is the difference with AMD and Nvidia IMO. AMD admit to their faults, Nvidia will use PR to try and cover theirs up. The crossfire latency issue is a prime example of this. AMD came out and openly admitted to some issues before it all came to light and said they are actively working towards a a fix and gave a rough time line. I think thats something to be applauded, personally.

That's not what actually happened though is it? They said nothing and ignored people for years when they said xfire just was not as smooth as sli even though the likes of FRAPS said the framerates were comparable. As soon as tools became available which showed what was going on they suddenly made noises about fixing it with new drivers. At least they did admit to the issue, the silence from Nvidia is deafening.

None of which excuses the ******* **** this mess with 320.18 is fast becoming. Seems Nvidia's hubris is coming home to haunt them.

In fairness it is a little different than the AMD case. I doubt people were sending cards back for refunds because of the crossfire scaling so AMD didn't have to worry about that.

I'm also not sure that AMD made much of an aknowledgement about there being issues with the 7900 cards, the X79 series motherboards, crossfire and eyefinity...

Now I realise not everyone had these issues, but it's possible not everyone on 320.18 are having issues either. Doesn't mean the issues weren't/aren't there.

That said I've rolled back to 314 drivers. Does anyone here use Driver fusion? Do you use the free version or the Premium version?

The drivers no better or worse between the two companies. Nvidia has a better software package and much better (and working) control panel.

Topic has been done to death, but excluding recent events no one who really has side by side experience of both AMD and nVidia drivers since say the 2900 series upto immediately before the 320.18 release could claim with a straight face that both have over that time provided an overall equal experience.

I can't see nvidia coming out of this one without a lot of damage to their reputation short of throwing a lot of money at the problem to replace people's GPUs tho - as they'd end up replacing genuinely killed GPUs as well as tons of people who'd abuse the **** out of the situation for their own gain.

Many do, and so do I, so what would you say to them and me?

And you'd claim that over that time AMD have had the same consistancy as nVidia in regard to handling new game releases, fixing bugs with games, and so on?

Baring in mind I can post half a dozen driver roundup type reviews over that time that proves they don't.

EDIT:

Quote from a review...

"AMD has a lot of technical and reputational debt to dig themselves out of when it comes to their Catalyst drivers. AMD dropped the ball this fall a number of times, failing to deliver on appropriate drivers for Rage, Battlefield 3, and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim in a timely manner. This isn’t something AMD is shying away from either – they know they screwed up and they’ll admit as much"

You can even find a direct quote from AMD where they state that one of the key areas they have identified as giving their customers a poorer experience relative to the competition was their adherence to a monthly release schedule and one of the things that kicked off the never settle program for improvements.

Yet people will still try and claim despite AMD saying it themselves, that the experience between the 2 has been the same.

And Nvidia have never before dropped the Ball, this is their first time right?

Get off....
Its their first time every time.
The difference is AMD admit it when wrong, Nvidia don't and / or try to sweep it under the carpet.

I have never ever claimed the experience with nVidia is flawless, ever. FACT. The fact that they've also had problems of their own does not automatically make the experience with both equal.

I've not even said AMD's drivers are terrible and unfixably broken and should be avoided yada yada either, I've said comparatively they have provided a lesser experience over the last 7 or so years.

Im going to sum up my view in a short sentence.

At least AMD drivers don't KILL Graphics Cards.

For the second time no less

Dare I suggest sticking to the topic at hand before another thread gets closed

It gets a little tiresome when people read my posts as what they expect/want me to be saying and then try to use them against me in that manner despite what I'm saying not being that at all i.e. humbug's accusation that I don't believe nVidia drivers to have any problems at all or tommybhoy's claim I was saying nVidia's reputation would still be intact despite categorically stating the opposite in 2 posts right before his, or the whole deal with regards to the 600 series in that other thread where right after I twice stated very clearly that the 600 series had some issues several people literally only a few posts later were trying to claim I was saying the 600 series had no problems at all.
