Hi Guys

Seems we are first to market with this one also.

Order placed with EK Water Blocks this morning for hundreds of 980 waterblocks.

We have the full range of EKWB 980 Blocks available to pre order on our site right now.

EK-FC980 GTX is a high performance full-cover water block for nVidia reference (NVA-1G401) design GeForce GTX 980 series graphics cards. Please check our Cooling Configurator online compatibility system for detailed compatibility list!

This water block directly cools the GPU, RAM as well as VRM (voltage regulation module) as water flows directly over these critical areas thus allowing the graphics card and it's VRM to remain stable under high overclocks. EK-FC980 GTX water block features a central inlet split-flow cooling engine design for best possible cooling performance, which also works flawlessly with reversed water flow without adversely affecting the cooling performance. Moreover, such design offers great hydraulic perfromance allowing this product to be used in liquid cooling systems using weaker water pumps.

Base is made of electrolytic copper while the top is made of quality acrylic material. The top also features two pre-drilled slots for 3mm LED diodes. The sealing is ensured by quality rubber washers. Screw-in brass standoffs are pre-installed and allow for safe, painless installation procedure. Block is mounted with enclosed M2.5 DIN7985 screws and allows for re-use of the original NVIDIA backplate.

EKWB recommends the purchase of aesthetic retention backplate (EK-FC980 GTX Backplate - Black or Nickel) which improves the looks of your graphics cards and also provide some passive cooling to the circuit board VRM section.

G1/4" threaded fittings can be used on both sides of the FC terminal. Up to four EK-FC980 GTX water blocks can be used on a single ATX form factor motherboard by using EK-FC Terminal (DUAL, TRIPLE or QUAD type) system or other means of interconnectivity. Please note that EK-FC Bridge & Link system is not compatible with this water block.

EK-FC980 GTX series product is also the choice of EVGA for their factory liquid cooled NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 HydroCopper series graphics cards.

Enclosed:
- EK-FC980 GTX series water block
- mounting mechanism with screw-in brass standoffs
- thermal pads
- thermal grease EK-TIM Ectotherm (1g)

970 is all non reference so far (coolers anyway, not necessarily different PCBs throughout). So it would be the same ol' policy of custom PCB blocks as before.

which card company allows the fitting of these blocks and you keep the full warranty?

thanks.

I'm sure rjkoneill will confirm but EVGA allow the removal of the coolers as long as they are attached when returned. I think OCUK some times allows the coolers to be removed depending on agreement with the suppliers.

Not looking forward to having to do another drain and block fit when these come in :(

I know MSI allow the removal of coolers for waterblocks as long as you send everything back if you RMA. The warranty void sticker is just there as a deterrent for inexperienced users AFAIK.

Also there are quite a few reference 970s for sale now. Any chance of re-stocking 670 waterblocks?

Aye I can vouch for MSI and OCUK in that respect, I removed the coolers(along with warranty void if removed sticker) from 3 MSi 290's and 1 broke down the line, I attached the reference blower back on, Sent it back and got a brand new 1 a few weeks later.

Warranty is at manufacturers discretion.

I have never had a single issue with any stock cooler removal. if you dont break anything then there shouldnt be an issue with warranty.

easiest thing to think is that if the cards have warranty stickers over screws, these tend to be manufacturers that are strict with warranty voiding products.

brands I have personally owned in the past and removed stock coolers without issue:

Sapphire
Gigabyte
Asus
EVGA
MSI
KFA2/Galax
HIS
VTX3D
XFX if you are very careful and reinstall the stock cooler perfectly.

essentially, if you have a sticker over any of the screws, then the company is generally a pain when it comes to stock cooler removal.

The truth is that most manufacturers now, especially ones that OCUK deal with are fine with cooler removal. They have to be in this day and age.

some may publicly go on record as being against it but as long as you dont send your card back for a warranty claim with it looking like a bag of smashed crabs then you will be fine.

the last 3 cards i bought where from MSI and they all had the sticker on them so i never bothered adding a block to these, (mind you i didn't purchase from ocuk)... but i will from now on.

thanks rjkoneill.......;)

Had my 980 EK waterblock on pre-order since 19th... any idea when they will come in @rjkoneill ? or should I cancel / get a refund and get one direct from EK, they have stock and could be with me in 3-4 days.... my legs are cooking from the heat!

EDIT: It turned up and is now fitted, thanks for the response.

For a long time I've not been a fan of the Acetal blocks as I liked to be able to see inside (for blockages or staining or stuff like that). However I do like that they cover the full card, why can't the plexi ones be the same shape?

Any more info on when these are likely to hit the shelves? Have a couple of 980s that are sweating on air at the mo'. Cpu is loving the loop all on its own, never been as cool.
