Broke cpu.... Need new...

Can't wait till AMD finally ditches PGA.

Thing is what option do they have?

I actually rate Intel's socket as worse.

I've only ever bent AMD pins once (lesson learned and all that) and that was on a Tbird. Since then I've learned to run the rig to soften the TP before trying to remove and have had no issues.

I did the classic "pull the cpu out of the socket".

I have, however, bent pins in an Intel board three times. Only once was it impossible to repair but I prefer AMD's approach all the way.

Edit - I see the 8320E is the efficent version, see no reason to go for this if true (I don't pay for leccie) and the 8320 is cheaper...

More efficient means cooler at given mhz meaning better overclocks with lower temps. The only thing stopping me going beyond 5ghz on my 8320 is heat. Once my chip reaches 73c all bets are off and the rig just locks, so it's literally a thermal wall I hit. 73c, right on the dot.

The E is a better CPU tbh, but then if you don't push for uber clocks it doesn't really matter as I've yet to see a 8320 that won't do the mandatory 4.5ghz.

To be honest, i think you'd be better off getting one of the newer APUs, and just clock the living **** out of it. The IPC is a lot better than the FX parts.

7870 + 7850k or whatever that APU is called, is a balanced setup if you ask me. Be sure to get some fast RAM.

This would be a terrible idea. Why buy the APU to use with a discrete GPU if you're not going to use the igp? you'd get the athlon equivalent instead for cheaper.

Fast ram would be of little benefit if using a discrete gpu.

Then there's the wasted money buying a new board and that a FX 83xx is a much better cpu.

Trifire on a 8350 is also a terrible idea but that didnt stop you lol

Them pins are quite a mess but I'd love to see someone have a go of bending them pins back straight and it would be a score if they could get it working.

Looked like it would take a long time bending all them straight. Maybe AMD would fix it, have you rang them up, always worth a shot in my mind. Worst thing that can happen is you get stuck in the queue on a phone line.

Sent them an email, not holding up much hope though.

Popped it on ebay, been offered £30 for it so far. So should get £35 for it, which altough still dissapointing is better than nothing!

imo that's fixable. Whether or not it's worth hours of your time is up to you to decide. I bent a few pins on my phenom ii 940 several years ago, but managed to get them back into place a few hours later.

I think you could straighten those pins out, personally. Run a credit card between each row of pins and use a long sewing needle to gentle lift the pin into place. Do the same again but running down the columns of pins. A few hours and you should be able to give the CPU much more value.

So I completely bent loads of pins on my 8350....

Having spent a fortune recently in pc parts I'm not really in the position to go buying another 8350. I have seen the fx4300 for £65. Am I really going to notice a huge drop in fps?

Mostly playing elite dangerous currently...

is that the one that's for sale on ebay if so whats the asking price
there pretty easy to bend back if done very carefully cos they can snap off if done wrong

hint use a metal ruler very carefully lever them straight

trust me to not read all the thread,,lol any way by the pic looks easily fixable

Jesus, how did you manage that?

Removing the cpu!

I have no idea, removed plenty in the past and done everything as normal. Little to no pressure was needed for the cpu to come flying out attached to the cooler. Getting it off the cooler was also a nightmare..

Sold it on ebay, so the downgrade cost less than I thought it would've. :)

You didnt use Arctic Adhesive instead of Arctic Silver by accident did ya? Ive gotta admit ive nearly done that a few times, i really shouldnt keep them in the same box :)
