Hey,

I posted yesterday here - http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18719168 regarding an upgrade and my components arrived a day early. Happy days.

My specs now are -

Intel Core i5-4690K 3.50GHz
Asus Z97-K Intel Z97 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard
Corsair Vengeance Pro Red 16GB (2x8GB)
Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo CPU Cooler
Nvidia GTX 460 v2 Graphics card

Install went fine, everything runs as it should.

I can run CSGO on max and get great FPS so i'm more than happy, however now it keeps freezing randomly and i have to open task manager to close it then reload it. My graphics drivers are up to date, i've tried rolling back to previous drivers as well but the problem persists.

CPU temps are fine, as are the GPU temps. Not really sure were to go with this as i never had this issue with the same card when i was running it on low graphics settings. Could this just be my graphics card not being able to cope? I don't really want to replace it unless it's necessary.

Thanks in advance

Dave

so its just CS:GO that freezes and you can use other programs when this happens?

i would ask the client(steam) to confirm the install is not damaged, also uninstall the gfx drivers and do a fresh install as a driver crash can do this also.

Yeah just csgo so far. And yeah I can still use other programs just csgo freezes and loops sound. Have to open task manager and close it.

I'll try what you suggested and report back.

Thanks

Lower RAM frequency to 1600MHz (if it isn't already) and test.

I would try a bios reset and any GPU overlcoking tools you have remove, it my just be the CS:GO is the only thing thats found a weak point in your overclock.

I have had system 100% stable and spend hours gaming, only to have chrome crash the system. more than likely an GPU problem if the system remains responsive

^ Yeah it's running really well thanks. Don't think the other half is too happy i haven't got off it since i built it!

I did keep getting crashes on CSGO though, and despite trying the above help and googling the issue the only thing that resolved it fully was lowering the graphics quality slightly. But like you said, i'll invest in a decent GPU sometime and it should be a pretty decent system.

Thanks again.

Oh and one more thing, I noticed this mobo has a "8-Pin EATX12V" but my PSU only has one 4pin connection. It's running fine with just 4, and after a quick google i came to the conclusion that it will be fine, but if i wanted to look into overclocking the system i should upgrade my PSU and plug an 8pin one in. Does this sound about right??

yea the 8 pin is to deliver a more stable power.
it might be worth looking at better PSU before you go looking for a graphics card.

but yea Im running with he 4690k on gigabyte Z97X-SLI-CF motherboard with 16gb corsair ram my ram is only 1600Mhz that's my next upgrade.

Ive been over the moon with mine and well chuffed on how it runs.

you have the z97 board and the k chip so you have the option of getting an overclock going in the future but you would need a better cpu.

theirs plenty of decent brand's in the store again it would just depend on youre budget. just remember there is no point in dropping in a cheapo thing as it will just give you hassle. my sister in law has been through about 3 or 4 power supplies in the last few years as she wouldnt pay a decent price for one.. I finally managed to talk her into buying a decent one after explaining how much she has spent on them so far and they have only lasted a year at most..

go event viewer see what the crashes are.

csgo on certain op systems can be a pig. my sons have issues with win 8.
