Gigabyte Not Dropping Volts when Idle

Do try a fresh install of the OS just incase something is making/stopping it from doing what it should be doing, that includes easytune/app center.

How long are you leaving it at idle to respond and try and downclock/drop voltage? I dont think its instant.

I have left it for around 20 mins before, I am leaving for an hour now to see if it eventually changes now. I'll return to my PC and see what happens. I have tried downing the voltage to 1.185 and that is what it used to run fine at wheat her it was down clocking the v core or not back then. But now that temp just keeps it idle at 40-50c

If it comes to it I can create a system imgage if my C:/ and this will keep all my software right if I need to restore the system image? If not how can I get it so I can keep an image of my drive as it is now so I can restore my PC to how it is now if a OS re-install doesn't work

I dont think any of us have asked, are your clocks actually dropping to 800mhz on idle, or are they staying at full speed too?

They are staying at 4.4Ghz (turbo boost default) and they stay at 4.00Ghz if I disable turbo boost in BIOS so yeah this is why I think it's also no down clocking with VCORE

All 4 cores running at turbo clocks when idle is perfectly normal if windows power settings are on high performance. Are you really sure about yours? I have mine on performance intentionally because I have a fixed overclock with all power saving settings disabled.

Incidentally, I'm running 4.5GHz/1.25v all the time and I idle in the mid 30s with a cheapo 20 quid cooler. Admittedly, my 4690K is inferior and should run slightly cooler but it doesn't account for that much difference.

Yeah I'm certain, I've tried all power settings and they make little difference.
I've tested my cooler and the stock cooler and both get high idle temps. I think I've mentioned this before.

I know youve checked this but just make sure some program hasnt changed it and type Power Options into windows search bar and open it up, next to the play you have selected (which should be balanced) hit "change plan settings". Then hit "Restore Default settings" for this plan, then to double check its worked hit "Change advanced power settings", open "Processor power management" and check "Minimum processor state is set to 5%"

If all that is correct you could check that the windows power system is actually working by changing "Maximum processor state" to 50% and save it then check your clock speed, it should drop it down. Mine drops to 1900mhz on 50%.

I will try the restore defaults but I have tried setting the max to different percentages and it did decrease the temp and frequency I believe

Dude you are a LIFE SAVER!!! cant thank you enough for suggesting this to me as its something i would have never though to do myself and i'm an IT Technician (so i over complicate stuff ;) )

After restoring defaults in windows power options all is working fine, better than it used to be, its like new!!!

getting my frequency changing dynamically and temps are 21c idle!

THANK YOU SO MUCH, MY HEAD CAN STOP HURTING NOW :) :) :)

All of you have been great! Thank you so much, now i need to update all the threads and help the other guys with this problem. I will direct them all to this thread!

Glad I'm not the only one with an Z97 SOC having this problem.

I've tried a few things with no joy, will be keeping an eye out on this thread.

Go to the second page of this thread and try the restore default to power settings! This worked for me!

RESULTS AND SOLUTION

Windows Idle temp used to be 50c - 65c now 20c - 30c

Load temps before and after are from 50c - 70c dependent on load

Frequency now moves dynamically with V-core Voltage
Windows Power Options - Change Plan Settings - Restore Default Settings for this plan (Do this for all plans if you want)

Select either BALANCED or POWER SAVE plan

Reboot straight after

No check temps after reboot.
(I also uninstalled Intel Extreme Utility Tuning while doing all troubleshooting)

Please read all this thread and this one - http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?p=29239074#post29239074

for all related issues!

Big shoutout to BLuD for the solution and suggestion and everyone else in these threads!
