This thread is repeted HERE , but thought General Hardware was a better place to post.

Looking to update my system. I need the following:

Motherboard -- (not looking to overclock, not looking to hve 2 graphic cards, 3 pci slots would be nice but not essentual)
CPU -- Was looking at the Athlon 6000+ but it seem the Intel are better, so no real preferences
Heatsink -- any recomendations?
RAM -- Unfortunatly my current OCR isnt DDR2 and needs updating, 4gb is a bit ott so 2cb of qulity ram will do.
Graphic Card -- no prefference

I also like a quite system so a OEM CPU would be good as i will be looking at replacing my Thermalright XP-120.

looking to spend a fair bit as i build to be as future proff as possible, so anywhere between £500 and £700

Thanks

With £700 you can get pretty much anything you want:

Gigabyte GA_965P_S3 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
£59.99
(£70.49)

Tuniq Tower 120 CPU Cooler
£27.99
(£32.89)

Intel Core 2 Duo E6420 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.13GHz (1066FSB) - Retail
£109.99
(£129.24)

BFG GeForce 8800 GTX OC 768MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail
£299.99
(£352.49)

Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-6400C4 800MHz Dual Channel Kit (BL2KIT12864AA804)
£86.99
(£102.21)

Sub Total : £584.95
Shipping : £8.95
Vat : £103.93
Total : £697.83

Assuming your computer is mainly for games.

The motherboard has 3 PCI slots and will support quad core chip with a BIOS update AFAIK, it overclocks like a beast too.

If you don't game as much you can drop the GTX and get a better CPU and mobo.

I'd do as above, but drop the GTX to a GTS, and upgrade the S3 to a DS3P and get a better PSU, as I'm almost certain you'll need a better PSU than you have for the system above.

Same drop GTX get a GTS... almost near GTX performance at lower resolutions (depends which u wanna use)

Then upgrade to a better card at a later date.

Agreed, the BFGR8800 GTS 640MB seems a better bet as Im not a hard core gamer.

What PSU are arround today? Could do with one with detatachable modules. What Wattage?

Corsair 620W.

Dont think it has detatachable modules i just know its a great psu and praised. and should run your GFX card.

Oh and if you are not hardcore gamer go for GTS 320mb instead of 640... only difference between them is 640 gets better frames at higher resolutions eg above 1600x1200.

Corsair, Seasonic, Enermax, Antec or Tagen. Any of their range from 500W upwards will do the job.

I have a Seasonic M12 600W btw.

Seasonic are really good, can't recommend them enough

Think I'll go for the GTS 640 as i like it to be future proff

As i saved on the Graphic card, would the following cpu pair nicely with the recomended Gigabyte GA_965P_DS3P (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.67GHz (1066FSB) - Retail

Would drop the E6700 unless you got money to burn

You can overclock the E6320/E6420 to the E6700 speeds and beyond will save you a lot of spondoli
