Just bought a Gigabyte GTX 480SOC from OCUK and installed the drivers that came with the card and ran OC guru to watch temps etc for first test.

Games and Heaven show green triangles after a minute at stock settings/voltages (out the box).
Tried nvidia driver & still had artifacts at stock settings.

I have a CoolMaster 750w PSU and a awell ventillated case with a QuadG0 on water cooling.
Never had artifacts with the previous GTX470.
Im taking the card back to OCUK now.

Here are the screensots if anyone is interested, sorry aabout the size, but needed to show all info:

Normal out the box Auto:

1.088v which is normal for a GTX480

Firstly the card will be throttling when you've given it the extra voltage (hiting 105 degrees). Return it to auto first, it doesn't look like a lack of voltage.

Secondly, before you take it back have you tried that latest drivers?
The ones shipped with card will be ancient!
It could be as simple as a driver issue, thee last thing you want is the shop to test it and nothing is found to be wrong!

i've had the same problem along with many other people on the other thread... considering contacting gigabyte wouldn't evga send you a gtx 580 as a replacement i guess they aint evga though... my first experience with a gigabyte card guessing they just rush released and made abit of a hash of this SOC card?
surely can't be the psu at 750w?? it was mentioned a 650w wasn't enough in one case but it should be. what do you plan to get instead of the soc? is the special edition worth a try? I'm considering sticking with ati and avoiding gigabyte to be honest

Temps are crazy high for 100% fan speed, I would assume a poorly installed cooler. The majority of problems with the SOC come form the low default voltage, raising this will sort the stability problems out, in this specific case the card/cooler looks to be faulty. Would not use OCT either as it is way too over the top to test GFX stability, likely to do more damage using it, just use games.

Put the voltage up to 1.060mv and try some games again. I would guess temps are nowhere near as bad in games compared to OCT.
Nobody should have to apply extra volts to any card to get it working as advertised, RMA it and get a card that works as it should.

I have seen a few people with the same issue now with these cards.

Shocking, I guess that's why Gigabyte offloaded the cards to OC on the cheap then :(

I agree I wouldnt give a monkeys what OCCT or furmark said about my card if it was fine in games, I would however just RMA this one.

Fact is you want one that is fine on stock volts as it means you can o/c it better.

FIXED IT....

Took it back OCUK & they tested it with Corsair/Enemax 800/1000w PSU's & it ran fine out the box: 820 @1025mv.

Obviously my 750w Coolmaster is not good enough! Even with a claimed 80proof & 60amps for the 12v.
I then removed my Asus Zonar (which uses an external molex) & the 480soc is now nearly artifact free at 820, if I increase the voltage to 1138mv it appears stable at 820, but hits 105c with the fans at 100%.

Whats interesting is watching the 12v rail, which drops to 11.71 but when the 3 fans fire up to 100% this drops to 11.65.
Ironic how the graphics card fans could push the power requirements over the edge.

Hmm, so im going to have to get at least a Corsair 850w when I can afford now :/
Even though it only says a 650w is required.
Maybe everyone with issues over this card just need a better PSU ?

Yeah, at 1138mv when running firmark I just discovered it stays at 105c for a few mins then throttles back to 405Mhz. This is hardly desirable.

I think Im going to have undeclock it to keep the temps down so it does not throttle :(
My case is well ventillated too.

I dont know if they noticed the temps or throttling when they tested it at OCUK, they may even have had a motherboard on a bench in a cold warehouse?

Even underclocking the CPU & disconnecting the DVDrom to reduce the power consumption does not enable it to run at stock voltage/settings.
I even tried it in my other rig: which has a Corsair 620w & it artifacted a little more.

Im stuck until I get a quality 850w PSU, as OCUK testing yielded no errors.

I think I could get it running stable at 800Mhz in the meantime though...
