Now that the nVidia GTX 680 2GB has launched I’m already looking forward to the rest of nVidia’s line-up. Rumors started about the GTX 690 and what about the GTX 680 with a wopping 4GB of memory (which is available for pre-order right now).

A few latest details of NVIDIA’s upcoming GeForce GTX 690 (Dual GK104) GPU have been revealed by Expreview. The GeForce GTX 690 would be NVIDIA’s next generation dual chip graphics card based on two GK104 28nm Kepler Cores and would launch in May 2012.

An alleged photo of NVIDIA’s Upcoming Dual chip flagship GPU – GeForce GTX 690 has been exposed. The photo is in low quality and could probably be fake, Nevertheless it looks quite interesting, Details below:

The card is definitely based on two GK104 chips (the same chip was used on the GeForce GTX 680) holding 3072 Cuda Cores (1536 from each core), 256 TMUs, 64 ROPs. It holds 4 Memory chips on either sides of the PCB which equals a memory interface of 256-bit for each core. This means we would see a 4GB VRam on the board.

New details tell that the card would be powered through two 8 Pin Connectors while the rear display panel would include three DVI connector and a mini DisplayPort interface. All of the latest NVIDIA Technologies would be supported by the GPU such as PCI-E 3.0 compatibility, adaptive vertical sync,GPU Boost, TXAA anti-aliasing, 3D Vision Surround.

I for one, am very interested and would appreciate any news whether it is rumours or hard evidence.

If it is 2x8 pin then that is a lot of power headroom for overclocking, 375W.

I suspect the 7990 won't be able to match the 690 when overclocked purely down to the increased power requirements of the 7970 vs 680

NVidia have never done a "big VRAM" dual GPU card before (e.g. they never did a 6GB GTX 590), so I would be very surprised to see them do a GTX690 8GB

I also think the 4GB GTX 690 is going to be way more than 600, more like 800 and I wouldn't be surprised if it touches £1K

Asus did the Mars dual gpu card before that was 2 full fat 580's on a single card so they might do something special again with a dual GPU card of some description but then that will be even more, like £1200? maybe?

still, only a few more days to find out most likely

Gibbo hinted at prices being between 700 and 800 iirc. I hold out hope for the lower price for the step up program but I am arguing with myself on this. Common sense tells me to get another 680 when they drop in price however part of me says "do it"

More specs and benches will help my decision.

you're crazy, just get another 680, the GTX 690 wont be as powerful as two 680S will it... even i've seen the light, the GTX 690 is a total waste of time.

it's for a few people only and will only be for sale in a few places

HAHAH i swear at one point you were going on about getting a 690 now a sudden u turn?

As for me I think i'm going to settle with 7950 cfx, the 670's will force a price drop for them no doubt.

But if it comes out at £700 then that means I have to add £270 to get a 690. If I go sli, I have to add £430 minimum. I am in no rush but have less than 60 days left on the step up program.

I have no need to do either but really tempted to do either.

yes but you're in no rush to go SLI, you can save that money and get the 680 in nov and by then it'll be less than 400 quid anyway.

why did you buy the 680 when you're now talking about replacing it, remember the rows we had.... yea' i was right wasn't i :p... you flipping brought too early, rather than waiting till August and thus you've now got the itch to upgrade again, this is because you're getting caught up in all this hype....i knew this would happen..... because after August it'll go quiet again

ANYWAY, it doesn't matter, but common sense tells you to get another 680, i've no idea what this step up program is.... but let it pass and wait for the 680 to drop in price....

there was another card that effects this lot... the gtx 685, but this isn't coming out, the 690 and 670 are both coming out on the same day i think

yes well i saw the light and members here convinced me that on 1080p i need nothing more than a 7970, or better still a 7950.

I did loads of research and realised that they were right..... any top end card will be ok, but the 690 is simply crazy

i will only get a 690 if i sell loads of paintings

it will be at the very least £300 until the 7XX series, £300>£230

he's not talking about replacing it. he's said from the beginning he was planning to go SLI. now, the option of SLI on a single PCB is saving him £200ish over buying a new card, so it makes sense to get a 690 as it is pretty much 680 SLI power

common sense dictates going for the cheaper option...

i dont understand this saving money thing, because right now we dont know the price of the 690 do we.... it could be 800 quid, i doubt it, but it could be

but if it's 700 quid then yes it's ok to buy, its interesting, but we cant tell till we see the new card, but i expect the 690 will be cheaper than SLI 680

Thanks Cleee. Exactly my thoughts on that reply.

Oh and to clarify Mal, I never bought too early as I love my 680 and the hassle free gaming it gives me. I don't want to waste a step up program (which you should research before commenting on, making yourself look silly). If I go 3 screens, then the 690 would be a cheaper option than spending another £430.

If it is £800, then no but if it is £700~ then maybe.

The countdown has started. GeForce GTX 690 will be released by NVIDIA during GeForce LAN / NVIDIA Gaming Festival (NGF) 2012 in Shanghai, China on April 28th.

It seems that our information that NVIDIA will release their newest product by April 30th was true. So this is even before Intel’s Ivy Bridge official announcement. This also proves all the rumors and leaks from multiple pages. I’m pretty sure that most of the reviewers are already testing this dual-gpu card as we speak.

There is also a possibility that this may be a brand new GeForce graphics processing unit (like GK110), but that would be totally unexpected! ORB-Hardware confirmed that we can expect few NVIDIA GeForce cards in upcoming weeks – that includes GTX 670, GTX 660 and maybe GTX 650. Don’t be surprised if NVIDIA actually decides to announce more than one card. So stay tuned for more leaks!
