Ok I know its technically not a video game, but I didnt know where else to post this.

Is anyone going to Blizzcon this year? I considered trying to get tickets, but ultimately decided against it. Maybe next year. I am getting the live stream again. Got it the last 2 years and considered it well worth the money. I even booked time off work so I can watch the whole thing end to end without worrying about getting up for work the next day.

Quakecon?! Thats basically a massive LAN party. You even have to bring your own PC.

Blizzcon has PVP tournaments as well to be sure, but thats only a tiny part of what they offer. They offer sneak peaks of upcoming titles, demos of said upcoming titles, discussion panels on their 3 franchise's and various other things, including a concert by a big name performer at the closing ceremonies. Plus you get exclusive WoW and SC2ingame items.

Blizzcon is just another way for them to rip off their customers imo hell even Quakecon is free

AFAIK Ticket costs are not sold at a cost which generate profit. Break even affair for the event pretty much.

They are pretty damn epic events though. I would love to go to one. They definitely put on plenty of shows.

Yes they do have a huge lan area but also Presentations, , Tournaments , Panels, and Exhibitors so nice try

The only reason I'd feel tempted to go is the pet that comes with attending, but I heard tell that the pet was also available last year to those who streamed Blizzcon - is that free? Can I still get my pet?

The opening ceremony will be available to all to watch for free. But the rest you will need to pay for.

The ingame items will only be given to those who actually buy the live stream.

I would love to go it must be awsome event..

I can see me getting it past the wife though lol

I paid for the live stream last year and it was well worth the money. Watching the dance and costume competitions live at 3am with some mates laughing our **** off.

The two presenters were good too, well, one of them was, some bloke who is a comedian. The woman was totally crap and didn't have any people skills or knowledge of the game at all.

I won't be watching the next live stream though as I don't play Wowcrack any more.

I agree. The 2009 one just had Jay Mohr hosting the dance contest. That second host for last years one was just out of place and ackward. Especially when they did that stupid "lets deliberately interview two people at once so our voices overlap" stunt.

I thought the multi-channel format was waaaay better than the single channel stream from 2009. Meant we got to pick what panels to watch rather than always having to watch the main stage ones. And the Tenacious D concert was fantastic!!!

I'm personally predicting the highlights for this year will be info on Diablo 3, SC2: Heart of the Swarm and a new Wow expansion being announced.

The trick with BlizzCon is two-fold:

1) Choosing a Blizzcon where something new is likely to be announced. Last year and 3 years ago were pretty much a bust in terms of new news, punctuated by Metzen's atrocious 'Geek Is' skit. This year should be pretty good, with a likely WoW and Starcraft II Expansion, and outside chance of new Diablo3 info (inc. release date) and Titan news. Next year may not be so much fun.

2) Knowing a lot of people in the community who are attending - there are loads of meet-ups and parties centred around Blizzcon that can easily eclipse the convention itself. This is especially true in years that have been rather 'lean' on content.

TBH I'd prefer to invest in SD Comic Con over Blizzcon, especially given how much the ticket prices are increasing.

Well no need to rush into a decision. The virtual ticket hasnt even gone on sale yet. You've got plenty of time between now and October to decide if you want it or not :)

Going on a three-weeks holiday on Wednesday and I doubt I'll get the hang of the new World of Warcraft in less than 2 weeks (played a little when Burning Crusade came out).

The whole community is huge and I don't know much about it at all. :)

I lost interest in Warcraft, but seriously cant wait till the SC2 expansion and Diablo 3 (so long as its not as bad as Dungeon Siege 3)
