opteron + asrock 939 sata 2 and awful agp performance

Hi folks,

I build an opteron Cacje and a asrock and overclock easily to 2500 at default volts (1.375v in mobo, but overvolts to 1.41).

The problem is that my new rig with the same winfast 6800LE (12/6) is giving me less perfomance in games (that is the strong point of A64, isn't it?) that with my XP2500M at 2400 Mhz.

In 3Dmark03 I get now a bit more than before (almost 1000 points more with the opteron&asrock), but with 3DMark 05 I am getting now with the opteron only about 3300 and before with the barton I was getting almost 4000 points, so 20% less now with the opteron+asRock  I also had to lower my settings in Battlefield 2

How is possible to get that bad score with a superb opteron overclocked to FX55 speed??? I installed the the integrated 213 uli driver in windows xp sp2 corporate edition. I am using fastwrite enable and agp 8x, default bios 1.2 so I don't understand what I am doing wrong

Another thing is I wonder if updating the bios is better considering the bios 1.4 has support for opteron and not the 1.2 (however it reconigses the processor as an opteron)

Thanks in advance,

L

why not try the asrock dual sata thread

here

obvious reasons: too long & too much time to read it (trying to set up a record iin number of pages??? ;) .

anyway already spent a few hours on that thread.... :o and I believe should be better to split it depending on kind of problem.

have you chosen the bios setting to use agp rather than pci or pci-e as the graphics adapter
most of the bioses i have tried have it set at pci by default

using agp 8x, tried with agp 4x as well. USB legacy support disable.

the system is stable and fast but low 3d perfomance.

AGP card and slow performance ?

Uninstall the video drivers.
Install the Asrock AGP driver (a second time if needed).
Install the video drivers again.

I am afraid I did that a few times already and still the same (this morning last time in safe mode). I wonder if updating my 1.02 bios will make any difference.

I read in other forum a guy saying he has the same problem and he believes is something to do with changing HTT to 800 Mhz, and some people speak about the link between north-south bridge

anyway my current set up is 11 x FSB 256 (so 1024) and 800 HT. The memory is running at 213Mhz and this is a bit slower gaming than my mobile Barton at 2400Mhz

Similar experiences here; I have same gfx, also softmodded to 12 pipes and 6shaders. I had my opty and this gfx in an Arsock at: 2.7gig 270x10; HT @800 ;mem on 166 divider and 2T. gfx would OC to 350/800 giving:
62900, 24137, 10517, 3597 for Aqua3, 3D2k01,03,05.

NB OCWbeta1 BIOS; fastwrites disabled; ULi integrated driver; 81.98 NVidia drivers.

Now I run the same bits in a MSI K8N Neo2 mobo at: 2.8gig 280x10; HT@x3; mem on 166 divider and 1T; here gfx runs at only 330/770 but giving:
60294, 23995, 10137, 3867 in the same tests - all using 81.98 drivers.

As I use the graphics for FS2002 inc. photo seenery it makes no difference for me.

This must be a "feature" of the AGP arcitecture used on this mobo.

what fps are you getting in the 05 tests?

my nu, gets 18.6, 14.9 and 25.4 - 4799 3dmarks 12/6 415/850

i find roughly every 1fps in each of those tests = 250 3dmarks

might be worth looking at overclockers.com forums and see if other people have the same problems ?

Some ppl are seeing slower 3dmark after clocking the htt but they lowering the link speeds to obtain it - try to reduce htt overclock to obtain high fsb link speeds 800+

I had a simular problem when I put mine together.I only got the same score as when using 2500 barton + 6800le 8 pipes 6 shaders score 3dmk01 1300, ended up doing complete reinstall and upping bios on board to version 1.50 score now 1800.everything at stock hope this helps .

So you reckon that bios 1.50 improve agp performance?

My score in 3DmarK05 and performance but global option in the drivers, 11x260, HTT 800 (so 4x260=1040, a bit over specifications), NB&SB link at 1000 (going to leave it at default option), memory at 216 (2.5-3-2-8) and 6800LE 12/6 at 351/891 is:

3DMarks 3782 (a bit unhappy, expecting about 4000 :( , with quality option 3500) my best ever 3940 with my XP-2500M
CPU Score 5516 (happy with this one ;) )
GT1 14.6
GT2 11.4
GT3 20.8

Aquamark score is about 63.028

-another think, thinking to get another 512Mb x2 but is not possible to find the same model of memory, can I mix with another branch/model of memory with similar timings???

Yep, you can mix and match memory

If you want to run in dual channel the memory on each channel must be identical though

You could have:

Channel 1: OCZ PC3500EB 2x512MB kit
Channel 2: Geil Value PC3200 2x512MB kit

and they'd run in dual channel mode

The timings will default to the slowest out of all of the sticks. That is, if your OCZ was rated at 2-3-3-6 (for example) and the Geil at 2.5-3-3-8, all four sticks will run at 2.5-3-3-8

As you have four sticks of ram you'll have to run them at 2T timings too

I thought it was possible but thanks for confirming this.

hmm, if your best ever was 3940, then its down to your card only being clocked at 350, try it at 400.

over 351 for GPU I get artifacts with 4 extra pipes eneabled. I got that score with the same GPU speed than now with my opteron.

I think I will flash the bios to 1.5 ;)

anybody tried the latest bios?

I'm getting EXACTLY the same problem :(

Over 900 points LESS in 3dMark 05 with Opteron 146 compared to my old Barton @ 2200 :(

Dave

I see you getting even less than me.

my AGP driver is dated on the 03/05/2005 and version 5.1.2600.2300 (device manager)

I updated to bios 1.5 and still same AGP performance.

I'm starting to giving up :o

I've tried both the integrated packs now 2.10 and 2.13 still the same performance :(

I've uninstalled and re-installed all the drivers over and over in different orders and even re-installed windows, no difference :(
